In therapy I use a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Systems Theory, positive psychology, and a bio-psycho-social approach to treating mental illness and other challenges we all face in life. The ideas from my videos are frequently adapted from multiple sources. Many of them come from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, especially the work of Steven Hayes, Jason Luoma, and Russ Harris. The sections on stress and the mind-body connection derive from the work of Stephen Porges (the Polyvagal theory), Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing) Francine Shapiro (EMDR), and Bessel Van Der Kolk. I also rely heavily on the work of the Arbinger institute for my overall understanding of our ability to choose our life's direction.

I've often heard that stress is our bodies' way of telling us we need to face and address something and make a decision and act on it. This experience is a perfect example of that.

Anxiety + inaction = suffering
Anxiety + action = results

I think the part of my anxiety that is toxic is getting that motivation to change something but feeling like I have to a) fix all the things immediately b)fix things I can't fix and c)not trusting myself to actually be able to fix things.

Thank you. Anxiety can be a helpful emotion. If we can channel that energy that comes from it to something positive, we can thrive.

Seeing this at 02:14am after just walking up for ‘no reason’…..
I guess I’m not as alone as I thought, thank you for this.

There's no bad emotions. They exist to tell us "Hey, we're doing great!" or "Hey, we need to make a change. We can't live like that."

I like that! Making a change for the better rather than allowing yourself to drown in anxiety.

Writing it out is REALLY helpful for me too. Somehow reading it on the paper makes it much easier to dissect 🙂👍

This message serves as a great reminder for me of the extremely useful tool of JOURNALING - to get everything in our head that's bothering us OUT of our heads so we can help see and know what's really bothering us, know and organize our thoughts, and by doing that, figure out what we want instead so we can actually take the actions required to get that. Great example of applying the invaluable tool of journaling to figure out and solve a problem! 👏👏👏

Thank you, Emma! I experience anxiety often, and get up and meditate, contemplate, and plan what to do to make things right. Learning and growing everyday! You are a blessing/ helping us what to do.

This is great to hear because sometimes the anxiety about the fact that I'm having anxiety and how bad the stress hormones and lack of sleep must be be for my health and my body is worse than the actual root anxiety itself.

Anxiety usually comes from obsessive thoughts inside our heads for which we cannot see a solution. You put your thoughts on the table, exteriorised them, shared the responsibility of solution finding and ta-dah...!

Emma - good for you for getting out this important message regardless of wearing makeup or not. Way to share and deliver valuable lessons in the midst of very busy and real life! You're modeling not being a perfectionst!!! 🤗👏👏🤚 "Perfection is the enemy of the good, the good enough, and the done!" (much less the enemy of busy moms and busy parents in general!). 😸

Btw you could look like a troll under a bridge (you look far from that btw!) and we'd still always see you as our beautiful super helpful awesome master therapist to the whole world! 🤗☺️❤️

I have felt very anxious recently but I have let it remain a vague sensation in the back of my mind. Now I feel inspired to write down what it is I feel isn’t right in my life and how I would like it to be.

I love no make up days! And, I noticed that if I see someone I know on a no make up day I feel the need to point out I'm not wearing make up, which I think reflects my insecurity about my no make up face. Hoping to grow in my love for my face without make up, especially with the aging process.
