I just removed all anxiety provoking entities. i.e. people places activities. I only engage in healthy activities. i.e. selfcare home security creative projects. I am in a peaceful place. I feel good!

The big thing that has helped me with social anxiety. is learning people are thinking about themselves. People are too wrapped up with themselves. That's why I don't take it personally if people laugh at me or don't want to talk to me. I still struggle with social interactions . Like keeping conversations going . But I don't beat myself self up about having social anxiety anymore as I understand I can't help it . People who are naturally out going don't have the struggle with interacting with people . Because they don't have the fear of social interactions. Like us with social anxiety do. If people show disrespect they lack respect. That's why I don't take it personally if people are disrespectful. Or over react and make a fuss about nothing. I can accept that Im shy and socially awkward. But I always try and make small talk with people.

I always find it funny how it is the people who don't suffer from anxiety that claim these things. It's not that simple at all. I can go into a situation thinking only positively and I still feel anxious. It goes much deeper than your thoughts. In my situation anyway. I don't expect to ever get to the bottom of it so I just get on with it.

This is pure gold. This may be unrelated but I feel like I’ve sabotaged myself my entire life because I was finding it hard changing my perception of things in an attempt to go forward in life and grow. I was stuck mind screwing my self for over thirty years. I was terrified to go out in public at one point, passed up countless opportunities to move up at a job and didn’t trust ppl to be in a faithful relationship with them because I thought I’d get cheated on. I was called a loser and a lazy bastard throughout my childhood but maybe my perception of ppl was just negative due to all the past encounters being not the best..

Counting backwards from 100 very slowly helps me a little. Sometimes I have to go lay down in a dark room and not move not talk breathe slow and count from 100 down to 0 over and over. I lose count a lot lol then start over. I eventually fall asleep. I have to know that someone is near me though. Not right up next to me but in yelling distance

Thinking of something different can be useful but if that's all you do it can be damaging in the long g run.

I used to always distract my mind when I had anxiety but that won't always work. What worked best was meditating and actually paying attention to my anxiety to face it so I would no longer fear it. To surrender and understand that it's okay to feel it and that it will pass. I don't have to do anything or "distract" myself. Just recognize it and let it be. Do this enough and you come to almost be friends with it and it is no harm to you.

We all want to run away from uncomfortable feelings but thats what got us here in the first place. Learn to face it and overcome. Same attitude applys to anything in life. We are problem solvers so when we avoid every uncomfortable feeling then we can only trick our minds for so long.

The thing is, if I’m feeling anxious about something specific, more often than not, I know that it’s irrational. I know I’ve got no reason to be feeling anxious, but that knowledge in itself isn’t enough to make the physical symptoms go away.

I agree. I learned that when we don't like a record, or song, we change the record or radio station. We can do that with our thinking!
