How to make walking EASIER with arthritis- don’t make this mistake

Walking tip to actually improve ☝🏽

If you want to get better at something, more isn’t always better- especially with osteoarthritis 👀

Continuing to flare up your pain but pushing your distance when your joints aren’t ready can actually make progress harder 😵‍💫

Instead- walk the distance your joints CAN tolerate then add in an exercise or two that helps to practice getting better at walking- like shown in this video ✅

For example, if you can usually walk about 10 minutes without significant pain during or after, use this as your walking time. Then, before or after your walk add in 10-15 repetitions of this exercise on each side. It doesn’t have to be immediately after or right before ☝🏽

This way you’re helping to better prepare your joints without making them mad 😡

⚠️ Remember: Please use support as needed when attempting this exercise to help with balance and stability.

I totally agree with you! I have arthritis and everyone pushes me to walk and walk…I’m at the point that I simply hate walking of any kind. I used to walk easily and quickly. I never thought it would come to this. But I like your approach and those exercises you demonstrated give me hope! Thank you so much! ❤

This is wonderful advice. Can’t tell you how often docs say, “ just get out and walk” … it’s good for your heart, weight & arthritis. My docs are at least decade away from knee pain, back pain & weight gain. Thank YOU, Dr Maggart for being so wise with your practical approach. It gives me hope at 75.

I was in hospital for a year bed/wheelchair bound. I was unable to learn to walk more than three to five hunched over steps from bed to chair. Now home trying to finish regaining strength and still no ambulatory capability improvement. Today watching this video is my answer to my desire to walk with a seated walker safely and efficiently. Beginning to try on each leg a few times today!!! Thank you for your expertise and video platform to provide proper body mechanics exercises to enhance efficiency in movement.

Lightbulb moment! I had a TKR 5 months ago and I’m having difficulty walking beyond one mile. Sometimes I feel like a baby horse, wobbly almost as if I’m walking on a boat. I realized trying to walk further isn’t helping, cue your channel and I’m already doing better. Thank you! 💕

Thank you! Finally someone admitting that there are limitations and disabilities and walking is Not the most perfect exercise for everyone. I've accepted the fact that I'll never walk again for cardio but instead I lift weights and do sit down elliptical ❤

Thank you so much, Alyssa. This is exactly the mistake I have been making. I'm always pushing myself and then I'm so sore I can't do anything. Thanks for an alternative! ❤
