Facts! A thick neck is a sign you've put in some serious work on the heavy compound lifts 💪

As someone who doesn't naturally have a large frame, I've always been fortunate to have solid traps. I've learned that traps and neck are body parts people subconsciously immediately notice and associate with being muscular.

If you've ever deadlifted heavy enough where you felt it in your chest and neck, you know.

A thick neck is 90% genetics. Some people need to train their neck directly to have an average looking neck while others just grow it massively by doing simple shrugs

EDIT: I didn't say you shouldn't train your neck if you have bad genetics (actually its quite the opposite, people with bad neck genetics should isolate it and train even harder). My point is some people say you only need shrugs to build your neck and it's only aplyable to people with good genetics, but for most people the only way to grow a good neck is training and isolating it.

Yes! along with various neck bridges, bodyweight time under tension neck lifts & weight plate time under tension neck lifts. I've been doing them for years in grappling. Very beneficial

17.5 inch neck, I do neck curls when I do skull crushers, and reverse neck curls when I do reverse flies.

Every exercise which involves upper back, traps and shoulder girdle will also work neck to large extent. Overhead press, deadlift, front squats, power cleans, snatch grip high pulls, RDLs and all barbell / dumbbell rows are the key.

The good thing about growing in your neck is that it's incredibly easy to gain mass there. I'm talking inches of progress in months' time. I saw a really interesting video on it (although I don't recall what it's called) of a guy who did direct neck training over a period of time and the results were nothing short of impressive. While I think it is largely dependent on genetics as well (as are all things), growing and training your neck is still super duper underrated and I definitely recommend it! (Just be sure to train it safely if you're looking to do direct work, screwing up your neck is NOT something you want to do AT ALL).

Doing shrugs directly upward will train the levator scapulae, it attaches in the back of the neck and below the ear

The company Maximuscle manfactured a neck sling years ago with chain and carbiner for adding plates. Still use to this day on supine and prone neck work. Bought the Iron Neck c. 2 years ago but gave up using after six months or so.. sure it takes you through dynamic ranges of motion but is all isometric so will never truly strenghten the neck muscles.
