Filming

Hi, I am the son of two artists and began painting in my hometown of Richmond, Virginia before I could walk. I was a rare combination of artist and athlete so I moved to Los Angeles in 2008 to play football for USC. I left the team my sophomore year to focus on painting and filmmaking, applying the same focus and discipline from my football career to my art. I primarily work in oils, and spend most free days painting "en plein air" in my new home of Sarasota Florida.

really appreciate how straightforward all of your videos are. I mainly work in acrylics at the moment but so many of your techniques are applicable to painting as a whole! thank you so much for all of the content you share <3

I feel really proud of myself for finding out the technique of the filter gallery in photoshop by myself. Especially seeing how you also use it and are now teaching it to all your viewers.

My skills are flying to new heights now and this channel and patreon was my launching point. His methods are easy to digest and understand. I always come to watch every new video. Even though I don't know Chris in real life, I trust him.

This one actually helped me more, than I thought it would. It's amazing, that even after 20 years of experience one can still learn new approaches and ways with art in general, which is probably why most artists gets stuck into it.

Fantastic channel you got here!

I’m watching so I learn how to paint portraits on nails with gel paints. Hopefully the same technique works. Great tips! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for this one Chris, really strips the shade/light value process down to a few essential steps. In fact thanks for everything you do, you’re helping make better painters out of all of us.

Once again, you break down the foundations so that they’r crystal clear. I owe so much of my progress in painting to you, and you guided me through the very beginning stages of identifying lights and darks, values, planes, etc. Thank you Chris for your channel and all the work you put into it.

I loved your comparison of bringing out the face through painting to sculpture.
That's how I always felt about my process too, while making art.
Thanks for an inspiring and informative video with a lot of good reminders!

Thank you for your sharing, your video is very specific and exactly what I was looking for. However, I have to watch more of the previous videos, and I see you have many beautiful portrait paintings. So I decided to follow you and wait for your new videos.

I guess I'm going to have to break down and rent photoshop monthly. This was really helpful, and maybe a way to do portrait paintings in a way that isn't so scary. Excellent video!

As always great video. Your suggestions are incredibly helpful and easy to grasp. The other artists you recommended were also so great for learning this craft. My pictures felt cartoonish and naive until I learned value and got more accurate identifying color
