My mother died of breast cancer and was overweight most of my childhood. My father died of advanced diabetes, heart disease and kidney disease. Both were very sedentary, both suffered from depression and slept a LOT. I remember feeling sad as a kid that they couldn't run around with me, that we'd go camping and just sit there. We didn't do things together, they watched me do them. I decided young that I didn't want to repeat that pattern, but as a naturally skinny person i was told I didn't have to exercise and wasn't taught to be active. I realized this past year that it was part of my identity to not be athletic or active. I didn't believe I could do it. I decided to change that, starting with yoga. I started cross country skiing, hiking, drinking more water and not drinking coffee. I feel so much better. Hopefully I will live a longer and healthier life than my folks and break the cycle.

The ideal thing would be a desk that moves robotically and that you have to chase during your work hours 😂😂

As a student, I just got a standing desk, which made me somtimes walk around, think while walking, stand up. I also do more daily tasks, such as cleaning my room, the kitchen etc... so rather than watching and in bed doing nothing, i move while watching the shows.

It's a start to a healthier lifestyle, so please refrain from such discouraging titles.

Into this is such crappy information especially for people that are sick in bed that have been bedridden for months even a year laying around not being able to do much but go to the bathroom and take a shower. All this does is just D motivates them even worse, saying that they’re no hope for you people that are up showered, driving to work getting out of their cars walking into a business setting on their desk working upright getting up moving around getting water going to the bathroom but there still up and moving. It’s like a dream to people that are really sick and have to be laying in bed.

The body adapts to any condition as well as sedentary behavior, and to readjust to the active state takes years and hurts. This is where those who succeed are separated from those who fail.

I'm worried I've ruined my health and my life, I just spend so much time lying down on my bed on my laptop, because its a huge comfort zone for me when I feel safe, I'm scared of leaving the house sometimes.

They say people you mean poor people who work all day that don’t have time to exercise or money. Also not every neighborhood is safe for walkers

I counteract this by hitting atleast 8 to 10k steps daily while still lifting 3 days a week.

My job has me sitting at a workbench for ten hours four nights a week.

Working out at the gym with lifting weights and formal cardio are both great. But what really moves the needle for health is doing lots of general daily movement.

Stuff like going for multiple walks per day, climbing stairs daily at a moderate pace, standing more, parking further away, running closer errands on foot instead of driving, etc..

If someone is healthy, they should never be sitting/laying for an entire day. There should always be bouts of general movement throughout the entire day.

So VR headsets might be even more the future now, I'm usually stood up when I play or socialise in it (not to mention the physical activity in certain games & people learning real dance/martial arts in VR)

Workout + more physical activities should do the trick.

This is why so many Americans suffer from heart disease. She didn't even mention vitamin D deficiency issues either. I hope for the sake of future generations, we can move away from the 8-5 desk job lifestyle.

Too much of anything is bad for you, moderation. Even standing prolonged hours can do the same as sitting such as blood clots the science is there as well
