Simple rule of thumb: Never listen to what they say, only watch what they do. Narcissists are just full of hot air.

"Care" for them is performative. They can mimic caring when it gets them what they want or makes them look good.

I honestly think this is the hardest part because it is so painful to accept when you have loved them so much. To know that it was never reciprocated destroys your worth and destroys your heart.

One of my favorite sayings is "Actions Speak Louder than Words." Couldn't be more applicable where narcissists are concerned.

It's hard to wrap our heads around the fact that there are people in the world that just simply do not care about people that they supposedly love. They would rather see you and the relationship fail before showing any kind of empathy or sympathy towards you.

I think that those of us with empathy have a really difficult time wrapping our heads around this. Personally, I have had SO many narcissists surrounding me all of my life, always believing that somewhere deep down, they must care. I still struggle with this. How another human being could truly have no empathy for another is baffling. Radical acceptance of this concept is SO difficult. This is a big reason why I choose no contact over grey rock whenever possible. The narcissists are master manipulators, so given the chance, they tend to lay it on thick that they do indeed care. Then we begin to doubt ourselves all over again. Vicious, vicious cycle. It hurts to see so many good people get stuck in it with the narcissists. Thank you, again, for helping us while we try to grapple with this concept.

Once we grasp that tough reality, we can understand what strong people we are to be able to function and find purpose while not receiving care or compassion from those who should have provided it.

They *don’t* care - it’s all about what serves *them* as they seek praise from outsiders while they treat their targets (us) like trash.

My NM just passed away 11 days ago, & her graveside service was brutal for me. So many glowing things that everyone else believed about her that weren’t true. I’m having my own “mock eulogy”/roast of her tomorrow w/a few friends that “get it”. I expect it to be very liberating & healing for all of us. 💜

Actions always speak louder than words. Narcissists are liars. I finally started paying attention to the actions, and then I went no contact.
