Aged 73 started intermittent fasting 1 meal a day with low carbs 3 1/2 years ago, after being diagnosed with diabetes 2 and A1c 11.5. Within 4 months it fell to 5.9. Reduced A1c still further within 1 year to 5.3, which is normal. This has been maintained even though I only fast now 20 hours per day and eat 60 gms carbs per day. No medications at all. Many other benefits such as normal weight, more energy, sleeping better, lower blood pressure, and rarely sick. Sailed through COVID without contracting it, unless I was asymptomatic and didn’t know ( also supplemented with vitamin d3).

I've been doing 18/6 2MAD and unprocessed food for almost 5 years. The biggest surprise has been that it gets easier and better over time. When I do eat processed foods or an extra meal it is so I can accommodate someone else(for example, my mom wants to make me a birthday cake) and the natural thing to do is get back to normal, no willpower or effort needed. Actually, the most shocking thing is that my asthma went away, and stayed away. That is life changing, and I'm never going back.

July 2020 I was diagnosed T2 with an A1c of 13.6 at a weight of 265. Going intensely low carb (~5g total a day), high fat, and moderate protein, with a 16/8 every day IF schedule, and just merely going for a short walk every other day dropped it to 9.6 in one month, and down to 4.6 in 6 months, along with cutting my TGs to 1/7 what they were. I also lost 100lbs in those 6 months and have kept it off with no problem, holding very steady at 165, and feeling amazing on no medications.

I completely changed my diet when I came to the US and went from healthy to unhealthy diet with a lot of processed food. I gained 60 pounds in 6 years, became obese, constantly stressed and found out I was diabetic last March. I have a doctor who encouraged me to reverse my diabetes, started IT, changed my diet with lowering daily calories and no processed food and exercise. I am emotionally, mentally and physically so much better. I lost 32 pounds in 5 months, do not get the cravings anymore. My A1C was 7.6 in March and now 5.2.

To reverse type 2 and prediabetes, there are 3 important things we should do, every single day, exercise, eat healthy with proper nutrition and intermittent fasting. It does not happen overnight. It requires patience and persistence. I reversed my stubborn 20 years prediabetes (did not know I had it. Doctors never mention on my yearly blood work). I started IF and exercise daily, vigorously religiously and eat low carb foods over a year. Blood glucose down from 117 to 75 - 85 fasted test. A1C from 5.9 down to 4. - 5.2. There are still the days up and days down depending the food I eat and the quantity. Overall not bad like a year ago. I noticed a huge improvement in Health and also even the days I break rules during vacation and occasionally, blood glucose spike and go down quickly at the base after 3 to 4 hours eating. Am 70, athletic and fit. I believe also the age make a difference too. If you're younger and take good care of yourself and following strictly the rules then you can reverse your health issues faster.
Thank you for a such informative video.
Happy New Year and Best wishes ❣️

I was only over weight and did not have diabetes. I started at 220 a few months into 2022 and now I weigh 130 pounds. I did it by eating only between noon and 6pm and eat fairly low carb. No bread or sugar in my diet or very very little. It seems to be no problem staying at the bmi now. I can move so much better. You can all be the thin person who lives under all that weight. All people can be the person you should be. I do not exercise as I am in to much physical pain from my disability.

Thanks Dr for this wonderful article. I followed the time restricted fasting along with just walking every morning and reversed my Type 2 diabetes. This really works and free - more people should follow this.

Great video! I’ve been intermittent fasting for about eight months now, along with exercising pretty much everyday. It’s been quite effective. I lost 30 pounds.

I have been on Keto and intermittent fasting for 4 years. I’m rarely hungry, I eat 2 meals a day with 16/18 hrs of fasting. What I have noticed in the USA is that snacking is huge there. Constant eating throughout the day would be the opposite of IF. Just eliminating the snacks would make a huge difference.

Very interesting video. Thanks for sharing.
Diagnosed almost six years ago as T2d, I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to try lifestyle and diet interventions before resorting to more conventional poly-pharmacy . With an A12 of 12.5 the diabetic nurse initially recommended insulin, along with statins and the usual candidates. Luckily, I walked out with only test strips and a glucose meter. Six weeks later, my A12 was 8.8 . Quite a few heads appeared in the door to see who this individual was.
The nurse was interested to see how I’d achieved this miraculous drop in A1c in such short space of time. When I explained that I’d cut out bread, rice, potatoes and pasta - not to mention sugar and junk food - the reaction was disbelief. Clearly, a first time in her experience.
Six weeks later, with an A1c of 6.1 the diabetic nurse was delighted. When I explained that I’d also started intermittent fasting, she admitted to following a similar pattern of eating. In her case, the primary goal was weight loss. Of course she would never be able to suggest this potential intervention to a patient.
Today, I am still in remission, with the most recent results of an A1c test coming in at 5.8.
I still get the post test call from a GP suggesting that I take statins to lower my risk of premature death, but I always decline the generous offer.

My aunt lost over 150 pounds ended up only taking one medication for her diabetes, but she never gave up the sugar ever and she died way too young. Medication is not the answer in the long term.

As a all or nothing type of guy I decided to do something based on a scare I had. My normal A1C levels were 6.8 for over three years maybe even longer. Through intermittent fasting and no processed carbohydrates including no alcohol, no bread no rice or potatoes. In August of 2018 my A1C was 6.8 no surprise by Oct 1 of that year I had it down to 5.3. Diet only no exercise. Other great things were a substantial decrease in LDL with a corresponding increase in HDL. Why does your profession as a whole not really push this? I was born in 1955.

Thanks for all you do.
