Fasting is the world's oldest dietary intervention. *Jason Fung, a physician, researcher and author,* talks about what happens to the body during fasting and how it has helped reverse type 2 diabetes in his patients. One randomized controlled trial of *intermittent fasting* showed a 47.2% remission rate of type 2 diabetes in the fasting group compared to a 2.8% remission rate in the placebo group. Fasting is a way of switching your body from using glucose to using fat. Fasting has many advantages, such as it's simple, convenient, free, flexible and can be added to any diet. Dr. Fung says: "You feast it and then you fast it, that's the natural cycle."

@MyChannel-j3r is a kidney specialist and New York Times best-selling author currently practicing in Toronto, Canada. His books, including The Obesity Code, The Complete Guide to Fasting, The Diabetes Code and The Cancer Code have challenged conventional thinking about these diseases, and introduces dietary strategies to manage them. He is the co-founder of The Fasting Method which provides the education, tools and community needed to successfully implement intermittent fasting.

I’ve got a nutritionist now that doesn’t believe in fasting and is trying to get me to eat more.. I’m tired of fighting with her, so tomorrow will be my last day with her.. Thank you Dr. Fung

I did it. 23 yrs DT2.
Pills, final straw was overnight insulin.
Intermittent fasting including steaks, eggs !
Went from 7.2 A1C to 5.3.
Maintained now at 5.3 for over 3 years now. Zero DT2 meds.
I didn't ask my Dr, I told him what I was going to do. Had blood drawn every 3 months per his request. If old lazy me can do it, anybody can do it. My Dr was very supportive.

Dr Fung saved my life - literally. I went from an A1C of 9.6 to a 5.5, under pre-diabetes in 4 months after fasting 18:6 every day. God bless Dr Fung.

Just wanna add a comment I’ve followed Jason Fong for a long time. I found one of his books on Amazon. I was type two diabetic. I lost a good pain job because I was a driver and I could not go onto the next phase of the job, I discovered I had diabetes, found his book follow the steps took me 90 days to control my diabetes. I went from A1c to 15 and I learned fast for seven days and I went to 5.27 days. Take me 90 days to get to where I could fast for seven days you don’t try and fast, very long at a time when you’re starting and your body is getting used to it. I’ve been within range for about four years now take action find one of his books even has recipe on what you can eat or drink during a fast. It’s well worth it. It changed my life.

The energy analogy, or the car that is full of fuel is the best image that helped me a lot, when you eat it spills in the blood steam and creates issues over time, thats why fasting and exercise is so important.. thank you dr fung

I just found out my sugar level is 194. I will try to fast for the first time. everything happens to have sugar or turn into sugar. Thank you for the information that makes sense. Even if I fast three days a week, gives my body to recover. My big meal will be in the morning; eggs with maybe Ezekiel bread and steam distilled water. I would drink coconut water but these companies add sugar, even to healthy items.

i do 20/4 fasting, and i have for a while now. im at a plateau now, but i dont really watch what i eat. I'll be trying to eat healthier, and I've started to work out/walk. I've always had low blood sugar. it's gone away. Ive done a few 48 hr, and one 96 hr fast. its amazing how good you feel.

Thank you for simplifying the energy balance theory to fundamental terms that every physician, nutritionist and patient need to know and do!

Thank-you Dr. Fung and Swiss Re people for this. One day, common sense will prevail. I'm a family doctor and learned of Dr. Fung's work through my patients! Intermittent fasting can work. But, we have to remember to NOT overeat when we break our fast. Don't forget to exercise. You don't have to be an elite athlete. Just keep active doing chores, walking, and light things. Look into Zone 2 Cardio in which you only need to get your heart rate to about 60%-70% its maximum rate (220 - age beats per minute). Learn about it and see if it's right for you too.

I didn't understand what does it mean placebo group of intermitent fasting. Besides, I would like to understand why more than 50% of people doing fasting didn't reverse diabetes.
