You guys.

Thank you for this video.

I use both the app and the web version of outlook and in my view currently the web one is the best (this was not the case a few months ago, as mentioned by Bobby ).

In my view it is possible that in the next few years all of us will be using web apps and smart folks at Microsoft are currently supporting both versions to allow users to get used to the transition.

At any rate, in my view the killer features of the web versione are the integration with tasks, the possibility of sending delayed messages (without having to keep the app open) and the snooze thing.

Greetings from Italy

I'm just seeing this video - it's exactly what I was looking for, so thank you both. Considering now this is 2 years later, I have the most recent MS 365, so even more has changed. I've been a desktop app person, but I think I'm going to try the web app a little more now — mainly because I love the "colors!" 😂 Thanks again - I really love the two of you presenting together! Fun and personal.

So outlook web you can add to your tool bar. It’s not just the basics as said. BIGGEST feature is under view click on Board and you have all you need. Multiple Calendars, multiple clocks, add notes, emails.

I use Webmail because IT can’t fix my desktop Outlook. Thank you for showing me functionality I had yet to discover!

For my usage - the two main advantages of Outlook desktop is copy-pasting the attachments (both in and out of the mail), and the composing with tables.
You can Ctrl+C a file from explorer and paste in an email and vice versa. And the table formatting, bullets/lists are so much easier in the desktop version.
The pros of the web-version are:
1. right clicking and replying/forwarding/RSVP an event works on the Web, but not on desktop (from the right side pane) - this is much faster than opening the Calendar.
2. searching emails is much faster on the web
3. in general, the web version is lighter on the system - though off late, Edge has started consuming lot of memory
4. Drafts get saved automatically

I use a combination of both in my day. I still find the web version a overwhelming to view sometimes.

Definitely Outlook on the Web! I use it almost exclusively.

In desktop app, you can drag drop any email to a folder on PC and the entire email is available as a .msg file for sharing across other platforms. No feature on web outlook. You have to drag the email to a new mail to add as attachment within web outlook, and then download it to PC folder. File saved with this method will be saved as .eml And you will need some email client to view that file or use web outlook itself.

love it, one thing that I would like on the web application would be a collapsible sort feature like the traditional outlook. In here I noticed you had it sort by date. If you sort it by from, you can collapse all the emails by who sent it giving you an overview to prioritize. This allows me to move the emails that I am done with to my subfolders as I read them.

Thanks for this. You’ve also missed the ability to drag emails into an event of a to do list. You can do this by opening up “my day” in the bar and then it allows you to drag and assign to either one.

Hi there, is there any way to get the Outlook Web to work with excel / VBA? As this was very useful on the regular Outlook App to create emails from excel, etc. Also, how to make intranet hyperlinks work on the web outlook as they don’t seem to work? Thanks!

Thanks, a handy comparison.
You don’t mention adding other email accounts to be managed by Outlook or the web version, is this possible in both cases?? It’s a deal breaker for me.

question - it seems the ribbon in the desktop app gives you access to better spam filtering that the outlook web app does not. Recently my outlook has completely stopped filtering spam to my junk box and in the web app i cant find an option to increase how aggressively outlook filters out spam. any advice?

Is this channel still being monitored ? Looking for a way to (randomly/equally) label emails that come into a shared inbox so that the members can be assigned emails in which they will be tasked to respond to. Any tips or ideas for a 3rd party software would be greatly appreciated.

I run a Mac with Office products but use the webmail rather than the desktop application. Question, I have is how can I have the webmail application open up when I link on an email address within MS edge?

100% yes! OWA is much better, the desktop client looks old fashioned.

My only problem with the web app is how to make it the default mail app. It's not an option under Settings>Apps>Default apps>email.

So, I may be late to the bus on this one but as of late, you can customize folders etc. to show in pretty much the same way as the traditional Outlook Desktop version by compacting them, etc, HOWEVER, this is the one function that still has me using the desktop; I manage several shared inboxes (6 in total I think) ranging from IT@, HR@, Operation@, etc. The web app does NOT allow you to favourite the inboxes to the top so you can see emails come in to each box. You have to scroll down to see them come in which is unmanageable. Add this function and I'm sold :) Already use the web calendar which is so much nicer visually and to do and teams. Why can't you just add that last function I need!

Useful comparison - I am looking to update my Outllook usage, and enable it to work on desktop and on a laptop/tablet while away form the office desk. The web version is much better than expected - the comparison will help me choose the right Office 365 option for a small business. I am guessing with project Monarch in play these different Outlook products will eventually become standardised on desktop or web - it will just be different between personal and business versions.
