I don't see how that is impressive.
They stuck a manifest file on their website so they could have it display in a separate non-branded browser window without tabs or navigation features.
There is absolutely zero reason to do this when you already have access to a native app and a website that do exactly the same thing.

(And no, this won't work offline. If you don't have internet connection, you won't be getting any new messages no matter how hard you try.)
