After hearing some coworkers were gossiping about me I decided to keep my mouth shut and just stick to saying hello to people. This also backfired on me because people started saying I'm unfriendly and negative because I stopped conversing with them. I can't stand people.

I just started somewhere new and was a big naive. Everyone was so nice and lovely to me and I believed that they were actually like that. 3 months in, I see and overhear everything people say about each other. Constant bitching and backstabbing. Now I’m really regretting opening up at the beginning!

1) Stop taking the bait. Breathe and stay away. Don’t react if you can but document.
2) Set Boundaries. Don’t feed the trolls. 👿 Don’t over share to anyone. Making sure you are assertive with saying no.
3) Know when to push back and when to ignore them. Stay away from them. Recognize where to let go and when to push back
4) Don’t acknowledge when they put you down and document
5) minimize your interactions. Do all the right things.

Working remotely helps minimize interactions with toxic coworkers and allows us to focus on just getting the work done. It’s the best thing that ever happened to the office! I never want to go back to dealing with all that nonsense.

How I deal with toxic people: I don't.

Co-workers who actually gets satisfaction and pleasure from doing this to people who did nothing wrong and minding their own business needs some serious help, or sometimes possibly an attitude adjustment.

Keep your home life private. I worked at one place where I was 25 years old and was getting constant promotions and was going on big vacations and purchasing new cars. Everyone I worked with were over 50 and bitterly divorced or broke etc. I used to get. “Must be nice” or Hawaii again? It got so bad it caused my coworkers to gang up on me and get me fired after 7 years. My current job I keep quiet about what I spent my money on and what I do.

These people are called malignant narcissists. A whole nother class of miserable people.
