How I make more friends

I used to hesitate before sending positivity, reaching out, or texting first

I no longer really hesitate, and I've made better connections with people as a result.

That's not to say some people might not subconsciously keep track of bizarre things like "hmm he liked 5 of my posts but I only liked 1 of his - I'm winning."

But I decided that life was too short to worry about things like that. I'm okay with supporting someone even if they feel like they're better than I am as a result. It just doesn't hurt me.

And YES, of course we should respect people's reasonable boundaries. If someone doesn't want to be our friend, they don't have to be! And if you feel like someone is taking advantage of you, feel free to move on to people who enjoy you more!

But it's been the mindset of supporting, helping, and giving without hidden expectation that's really helped me connect with more people and ultimately have better peace of mind.

Just sharing some thoughts! Hope you're all well.

sometimes trusting people can be hard to manage, but being nice is never a mistake

Reading the book how to make friends and influence people helped me a lot. Smiling, being more positive and trying to get people to talk about themselves instead of me talking about myself seems to make people like me a lot more.

I love it when you pop up in my feed. Your presence always shows love and I so appreciate that.

Very good tip.
Ive been trying it out the last half year or so and tbh it feels kinda liberating to just be able to compliment your friends without overthinking it y’know

As a person who worries a lot about bothering others, and one whose world shrank massively during the pandemic, never regaining its former size (seriously, the only people I talk to most days are my immediate family and my cats), this was a great reminder that reaching out to others . . . probably WON'T bother them (even if I'm worried it will).

I love giving people compliments. If I think their clothes are cute of their hair looks great or they are just kind or brave or polite, I will say so.

Something I learned as a chronic apologist is to say “thank you” instead of “sorry”.

Like “sorry Im late” becomes “thank you for waiting for me!”

It flips the narrative and thanks the person for being there and it enables you to compliment them and set up a positive situation instead of ranting about the bad thing that made you late, and them being sorry for you…. Those conversations are still needed and valuable, but they aren’t always.

You will never regret having been kind and encouraging to people!

I usually don't text people, not because i don't want to, just because i feel like they might feel like I'm "pretending something" or simply that I'm "weirdo looking for attention".

You're someone I really admire, so this advice from u means too much for me!❤

Thank you! Continue being so cool!

Dude, you’re awesome. Don’t worry too much about being weird or whatever. You do you. You don’t need people in your life who don’t like you for who you are. One good friend is worth more than a hundred acquaintances.

You don't know man when someone is having a bad day or just down. A simple gesture like this and to take time to check on people show how good of a person you are. 👍

Thank you for this ❤
I'm often afraid of seeming clingy, but apparently thats just in my head and my friends now find me a supportive and kind person now that I've opened up :3

Such a great perspective. I feel like I needed to hear this because I hesitate like that all the time for no reason honestly

I completely agree. If you care enough about someone in a healthy way, that you want to tell them that, then do it. If they don't want that, tone it down a little, sure. But don't suppress who you are. The ones that love you back for it? They're the ones who stay, and who should stay, for that matter.

I always did this and in my teenage years many people didn’t know how to handle that but today I am so glad that people are actually super happy to come across that level of openness. I am super grateful to have never given up on my intuition to speak openly about my feelings and thoughts.
