So the truth is that calories in - calories out does completely determine weight loss and if you eat more protein you burn more calories. (And oc if you dont eat any protein at all you might burn some muscle, but eating extra just goes to heat so why not?)

A good reminder, even for those in the know. You are truly an inspiring and good example of what is and what isn't. Thank you!

But it is about CICO; it’s just that people used to assume they could predict the calories out just by resting metabolism plus activity, not understanding how little effect most exercise has on immediate calories out and how much an effect there is by characteristics of food.

You are conflating math with biochemistry. Even in your explanation you affirmed that calories in versus calories out must be utilized but then went to explain about optimizing the results of the math. It's really a symantic argument.

I'm not sure anyone says CICO is the only thing but it is the basis and without it you are shooting in the dark.

It is all you need there’s just more too it that can help you feel better while doing it, but ultimately calorie intake vs calories expended is gonna have the biggest and easiest to apply impact

it's really great to see someone as in shape as you talk about and enjoy food as much as you seem to. really gives me hope that i can achieve the body i want without sacrificing my relationship with food

Thank you for reminding me about this. It's so hard to get out of the low calorie mentality.

Yeah I’d buy that. About 15 years ago, I got down from the overweight category (I don’t remember the numbers) to normal weight on WW. But somehow looked exactly the same. And I was miserable and malnourished. My nails got white spots and though they’ve always been super strong, they became brittle. My hair, which was also always thick and long and strong and no problems ever with growing it long, got brittle too. But the worst was that I somehow looked just the same even though I was wearing a size 6 instead of a 12. That whole thing messed with my mind and my metabolism. WW mainly just focused on a calorie deficit and I over exercised to earn more points, cardio of course because that gave me the most points for my time, and the system encourage “lite” packaged foods, which pretty much have no nutrients for the most part. I’ve never been as healthy as I was BEFORE I did WW.

But don't forget that large amount of meat leads to gout for example, everyday see this kind of patients

That’s true. However, calories in calories out still works, because the thermic effect of food IS included in the “calories out” portion of the original equation. So, instead of telling people that the equation isn’t true for click bait, you should simply share this information as a bonus tip or something like that

This is certainly true for weight lifters but I am a ciclyst mainly and train strength only as much as is required for joint stability reasons. I eat 3 x 30 g per day as I am such an old croak that 20 g-meals don't cut it any more but beyond this, I feel that more protein is contraproductive. For uphill work you need carbs. As an expatriate Croatian living in Germany I prefer beans and potatoes 😂. Nothing like the good old Spanish tortilla (eggs and potatoes) to get you up that mountain pass.

Yeah, I heard protein burns 20 to 30% of the intake to process the digestion of the food, fat is 0 to 3%, and carbs 5 to 10%.
