What's Happening to the Fung Bros?

Video Description:
The Fung Bros were once a YouTube powerhouse bringing millions of views per video a few years ago. Recently, the Fung Bros have shifted to a new YouTube strategy where they make high-frequency, less edited podcast videos sometimes posting multiple times per day which bring in less views than their previously viral hits. While these videos bring in fewer views, they cover important Asian American issues and the Fung Bros are one of the only channels doing so (aside from ya boi lol).

This leads to the question, are the Fung Bros becoming irrelevant? Or are they more relevant than ever, standing at the forefront of the Asian diaspora?

I like their new videos a lot, I feel like they are maturing. I feel like I learn a lot about the Asian community.

Funny enough, I was super late to the party and didn't start watching much Fung Bros until after they had already made the shift to more podcast/ social commentary-type content. So I actually enjoy a lot of their current work for the most part Lol But I can definitely see how it can be seen as a major departure from the content they used to be known for.

If their passion is to tackle more serious discussion and less fluff, so be it.

I love fung bros I watched them for the longest with nigahiga and kevjumba. I love how they talk about Asian culture that is less visible (e.g. azn culture).

Their view counts decreased, but i only paid more attention to them when they shifted to their discussions, and i feel like i learn a lot from their interesting takes that are not as biased as a lot of youtube reactions to the same news.

Sadly no new popular Asian YouTubers that are taking the places of NigaHiga & Fungbros

I watch the fung bros as someone who identifies as part of the Asian American community but not the Chinese American one. I am more confused with your intent on bringing someone else’s platform down when they are just staying true to themselves. If they have a neutral opinion on popular topics you are not forced to watch it. In this generation, the heavier the view (more controversial, more opinionated) the more likely you are to be cancelled. Sure you’ll gain more followers of one school of thought but what good is it if they are pro-Asian and anti-X?? Division is not the key to solving our problems. At the end of the day they are making a living out of it and don’t want to risk that. Why do you care so much about what other channels are or aren’t doing. This video and some of your other ones are looking to chase clout. 😂

I think it’s good for them. They are maturing and tackling serious and not so serious topics and discussing it. They still do post food content, just not as much. 👍🏼

I have never watched Fung bros until they changed their style. I didn't even realized of this change until you said it as I thought they always have been like this. I like their new angle and it certainly caters to an different audience. It's more serious and I am finally understanding the issues surrounding Asian Americans.

I mean how big is their market? A lot of Chinese Chinese people get their media from weibo or Chinese language based platforms, their only demographic is Asian American. India based topic stuff blows up because Indians have English proficiency. I don’t think I could do any better than them if I were a content producer.

I know how you feel about these guys, what I'd like to point out to people is compared to their peers I think they have done well. Wong Fu for example basically are a super boba lib channel and they represent everything I think is wrong about how some people view Asian diaspora issues. They are way too over sensitive about what other races think to really speak honestly about asian issues. JK News are basically dead and never had any serious things to say about Asian diaspora issues anyway. Ryan Higa just doesn't need to do youtube anymore. Fung bros are the only channel that has: 1. Stuck around and 2. Speak candidly about Asian issues without white washing shit down. They have my respect for that.We need more of them and less of Wong Fu.

Seeing how this video game out 5 months ago, the Fungs have since dropped from 2.18 million to 2.17 million subscribers....having said that, I believe their specific agreement with YT has changed as a higher up at Google (likely an Asian male) signed off on these guys bringing them in as W2 full-time base salary earners while even paying for their fly studio/crib in NYC. I believe their arrangement now places a quota of "how many videos to upload a week" which can vary from food, culture, fashion, travel, and Asian issues while no longer monetarily rewarding/punishing them for how many views each release gets.

Yo man, can you make more vids on weight lifting for naturals, cold approaching women, how to not be nervous around girls, dieting, healthy eating, fastest way to sleep with girls etc? Or is this a channel purely about asian people and culture and rants? Would be cool to get more general topics! 😅

I feel like you are conflating view count with video quality and I just don’t agree.

If the Fungbros cared about that so much they would of just continued with the food videos mainly.

But I think that they know that that isn’t really contributing much to society anymore compared to them speaking about Asian American issues. A large part of why those videos were so popular was also because they brought in so many attractive women guest and YT is primarily male audience.

I personally think it’s great that they’d rather pursue something they feel more passionate about even if it costed them a lot of views and revenue. I’ve watched them ever since 2013 and my only critique with their current podcast uploads are that I wish they would take a firmer stance on topics at times because they usually seem to be very neutral-internet friendly with their opinions even though they try to cover “serious” topics.

You forgot Kevjumba, the Youtube goat.

She's not their real mom. David seems more enthusiastic about the new format. Andrew seems like he wants to wrap it up. They may be trying not to take sides but Andrew seems more conservative.

ok. compared to the other channels you mentioned. What were the view counts for WongFu, JustKidding and Nigahiha before to now. Are they comparable?

I've noticed there have been days when Fung Bros upload 2+ videos. I think that's possibly why they have a lower average per video since they upload so often. I find some of their content interesting. The accent imitations they do are kinda annoying but some of the conversations are thoughtful.
