5 Supplements Seniors Should Take For AMAZING Sleep

If you’re like me (meaning over 55 years old!) who’s struggling to sleep, a vitamin or mineral supplement may be just what you need to get a better night’s rest.

So in this video I’m going to walk through some of my favorite sleep supplements specifically for seniors. As we age, our bodies naturally become deficient in different vitamins and minerals. And these deficiencies can lead to prolonged issues with our sleep.

But! That doesn’t mean we can’t get the quantity and quality of sleep that we deserve. Often times, all it requires is a simple OTC supplement you can pick up at any local drug store.

But, we need to be smart about supplementation. First of all, taking the wrong supplements won’t help your sleep issues. And some supplements can have interactions with different medications that its good to know about.

How do you know what supplements you need? You’ve heard me say it before: get your blood work done. It’s something I tell all my patients. I always say, “Test, don’t guess!” This is the MOST important thing you can do. Ask your doctor, they’ll happily do it. Make it part of a routine physical!

Ask them specifically about the vitamins and minerals I’m going to cover in this video. Remember, the vitamins or minerals in supplements themselves do not help you sleep. Instead what is happening is that the LACK of a particular vitamin or mineral is making it harder to sleep. So by supplementing that vitamin, and removing that deficiency, then you sleep better.

Great videos.
I am not yet "over 55" yet, but I am already kind of like you.... turning 50 in 8 months and it's so obvious that my body is not the same as it was 15 or 20 years ago.
I take my health into my own hands and look forward to being "half a century" old.

This video is incredibly helpful! The explanation at 2:45 about the benefits of magnesium for sleep really caught my attention. It's amazing how something so simple can make such a big difference. Thanks for sharing!

Magnesium Oxide is known to cause diarrhea. This is the most common form found in low quality multivitamins.

I have much better sleep than I did 10 yrs ago. I use to be considered a noght owl BIG TIME. I take iron because I developed deficiency after menopause 3 years ago. I take vitamin D because I don't get out much anymore and I started magnesium to help me use the bathroom easier since I am disabled. So, it sounds like me adding those 3 supplements to my day has also helped me in a different way. I use to stay up until 2 am. all the time and now I usually head to bed about 9 or 10.😀

Great advice. Thanks for all the tips. For me that’s just not enough vitamin D especially living in Michigan in during the winter. I take between 5000 to 10, 000 international units along with vitamin K2. It might sound like a lot but just going out in the sun for 20 minutes. You can get that much during the summer.

Thank you for this video but you need much more of 800 IUS of vitamin D especially in the winter time 5, 000 IU's is sufficient to get your vitamin D up to Optimal level

"I heard there are 5 foods that help the elderly sleep better. I'm so curious! 😍 I wonder if there are some foods I'm eating every day? If anyone knows, please share immediately, so the whole family can improve sleep together." come on 😴✨"

Did you really say 800 ui that's ridiculously low. The latest research on vitamin D deficiency it's more like 5, 000 to 10000 per day
