How Did Angelo's Mom Learn English?

My mom tells the story of how she learned English, from beginning as a 12 year old all the way to going to night classes in Virginia for four years. My mom loved America and wanted to go there, saying how she especially loved Elvis while in Greece. I also asked her about the hardest part of learning English.

Ahh there we go! I always wanted to hear the full story :D

Your mom's English is excellent, and her Greek accent is the cherry on top ;) I know some Greeks who've been here for 40+ years and still barely speak a word of English (or French). But she deserves major props for immersing into the American culture and taking mental notes of how people speak (even the slang, lol).

I love this new ''The Language Corner'' show! Looking forward to more episodes.

Btw, Υ/υ (uppercase and lowercase) is one of the 5 Greek i's, but it can also sound like f, v, or "oo" depending on the word. It's called "Ypsilon" (not to be confused with "Epsilon" Ε/ε).. although I call it the "wannabe" letter :)

This is so interesting to me. I am very impressed with her on this topic actually. Anyone in my family who came here from Italy past the age of 14 still to this day need assistance from other family members to navigate their daily lives. I realize many of them went straight to work here and never had the time or the resources to go to school here but your mother was wise enough at a young age to do this before starting her family. Also, I get the impression that her education in Greece was actually substantial whereas a lot of my relatives and other other older Italian immigrants that live around us had no working understanding of their own native language let alone English.

This is a great video. I hope you continue and perhaps one video have her say words that are hard to pronounce and explain why the difficulties.
