Save all your vegetable scraps in a ziplock in the freezer then at the end of a week or two use them to make vegetable stock. Cook for about an hour then drain all the vegetables. Vegetables can go to the compost then but you have a delicious stock to use for other recipes

My garbage bowl goes either to the chicken house or worm bin.
I love shred cheese in the processor. Much tastier.
And I usually run lots of onions and peppers thru my processor and then freeze in gallon ziplocs. Just make the bag thin so you can break off what you need. I love having them handy.
I have so much of my protein canned. So my cooking time is really reduced.
I love hearing hacks and just gather them as I go. Thank you for amassing more to add to my line up. ❤

Rachel taught me to use the GB as well and it’s glorious

The garbage (or compost) bowl is such a great idea. I clean as I cook, but it really slows me down, lol. My favorite multi-meals meat is a big pork roast. We do dinner with it that night, then I use leftovers to make pork stir-fry and pulled-pork street tacos, and put some in the freezer for down the road dinner-in-hurry meals.

Shredded cheese can be frozen. I put mine in 1 or 2 cup freezer bags. Also, I freeze chopped onions. Great for chili, burgers, black bean burritos ect.

Another RR tip that I love is using a little basket to round up all the ingredients from the pantry, cupboard, and fridge for the recipe or meal you are making, then proceed to measure out and chop or prep as neceassary.

These are great tips on how to save time in the kitchen. I've been using the garbage bowl idea and shredded cheese in the food processor for years and I love it.

We have a little gizmo that hangs off a lower cabinet door. It holds a grocery bag open so we are able to use it just like a trash bowl. When we're done using it, we just remove the bag and throw it in the trash without having to wash a bowl. It cost about $4 on Amazon.

We have a Tupperware for organic scraps. In our area, we must place our food scraps with the garden clippings. So Cal composts!

I LOVE those hearts of palm brown rice!

I use a $0.98 1.5 gallon trash can from Walmart as my “garbage bowl.” Walmart & Target shopping bags fit it perfectly so it stays (mostly) clean & my bowls remain free. 😊

The cut off portion of asparagus spears - save them in a 1 gallon zip bag. And keep in freezer. When bag is full, cook with water in stock pot and make asparagus broth. Strain, add unsalted butter and heavy cream to broth, and have some asparagus cream soup. Use arrowroot for thickener.

Also, I use one of those plastic box that is a veggie chopper with dicing blades, and prep onion and other veggies ahead of time. They are between $15-$25, depending on the quality, but well worth the price. I help in a food kitchen for people experiencing homelessness sometimes, and they use a big one to produce a ton of vegetables in minutes for delicious Filipino stews and will often feed almost 200 people.
