Why You Shouldn't Add Sugar To Your Coffee?

All around the world, people add sugar or sweeteners to their coffee, and have done so for centuries.

Although third wave coffee consumers generally lean towards drinking coffee without milk or sugar, it is still an established habit in the sector that isn’t going anywhere soon.

In the USA alone, a study shows that more than 50% of surveyed coffee drinkers sweeten their coffee.

Not everyone knows that Arabica is the most aromatic and less bitter species because it naturally contains 8% sugar, while Robusta contains 5%.

To confirm that the coffee contains sugar: the change in the color of the bean from green to brownish-olive when roasting is due precisely to the caramelization of sugars.

The sugar added to your coffee isn't the same as the natural sugars found in foods that contain carbohydrates like fruit, vegetables, grains and milk, for example.

Added sugars are those that have been added to foods, such as coffee creamer, as flavor enhancers and preservatives.

Refined sugars are examples of added sugars — they are processed versions of natural sugars.

When you add a teaspoon of granulated sugar to your morning cuppa, you're sweetening your caffeinated beverage with refined sugars, which can have negative health effects.

Dark Muskavado Sugar, is used in preference to any other sugar , as it's got more of what gets extracted to make castor sugar - white .
My supply has dried up due to manufacturing issues .
It gets used in the annual Christmas Cake, for flavour, occasionally with sour apples with cinnamon and Cardomon . Oh, it's great in coffee - 1 flat small, teaspoon, I find adequate . It also makes for altered flavours in preserves - consistency to if a jam .
Stevia, is used for various other baked goods and in jellys - as can the dark Muskavado .

I add cinnamon and organic natural medjool syrup in my coffee. Much much better than sugar.

Coconut oil only works in hot coffee as it dissolves well. I drink cool coffee most of the time with Saigon Cinnamon as this has more benefits than the generic ground cinnamon that usually is a blend of other cinnamon that maybe not as healthy

What about unrefined sugar, honey and fruits, all are loaded with sugar. Sugar is our natural source of energy. Something else must be to blame for poor health, maybe fats and processed foods?

Home made coffee for me, 1g sugar tops. Demonization of coffee isn't fair. Average person would consume more sweeteners with a cup of tea.

Recent study !!! White processed sugar is the worst food item in our kitchen and that's been known for decades. But if my wife and daughters want it, so be it.

Coffee is delicious on its own. Find one that suits you and it will be so tasty that you don't want to dilute the taste with anything! Don't get me wrong, I like coffee ice cream, I just don't want ice cream in my coffee!
