Sugar/sweet cravings? Carbohydrates stimulate the release of the feel-good brain chemical serotonin. Sugar is a carbohydrate, but carbohydrates come in other forms, too, such as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, which have fiber and nutrients your body needs. Sweets just taste good, too. And that preference gets reinforced when you reward yourself with sweet treats, which can make you crave it even more. With all that going for it, why wouldn’t we crave sugar? The problem comes not when we indulge in a sweet treat now and then, but when we overdo it. That’s easy to do when sugar is added to many processed foods, including breads, yogurt, juices, and sauces.

So true, i usually tend to crave a lot of sweets. I started taking fruits in the morning, and my sugar craving throughout the day has considerably reduced, and I don’t feel like having a slice of cake even if it’s in front of me

I used to have 1-2 cookies almost daily and was never able to get rid of it.... Eating blackberries helped curb my sugar cravings. US supermarkets are so full of bakery items...it's like a vicious cycle - you eat one and your body craves for another. Thanks to you I have been able to control myself and bring frequency down to once in a month.

Dear doctor, Your message is very important and valuable message.. whenever I crave for sweets I eat bananas or dates..
When I tell this to my mother, who is having diabetes, she is not understanding.. she drinks coffee with sugar, but says no to banana.. I request you to please explain this in slow mode and also in Tamil.. people will salute you..

I remember when I ate mostly raw for 9m that I never craved any cake/biscuits/sweets etc my diet consisted of fruit all day and a large salad with a jacket potato every evening. I felt amazing & my blood work was excellent so I have to say I agree with this.

You have to change your taste buds by drinking fresh lemon/lime water or just fresh lemons as your first drink in the morning before eating anything. Always drink out of a straw because of the acidity in lemons/limes to avoid harming your teeth. Do this daily and make sure you keep fresh fruits and frozen fruits in the refrigerator. This works so well to reduce those sugar cravings.

As a diabetic, it is hard to know. Sweet cravings are always a problem. However, I have noticed that when I eat fruit, I do feel good. I don't keep craving sweets.

I am so pleased to hear this. I have always had a sweet tooth but have never been able to eat cakes when I'm hungry. Only fruits will do.

Minimum 500 MG of vit c will eliminate most sugar craving. Eating processed sweets increases craving.

I’m 12 and I stopped craving sweet or even if I got offered sweet in an annual function or a festival I ate half of it, I stopped eating like whole of the sweet, it helped me a lot and now I am more immune to common fevers and all stuff. Your tips helped me thanks :)
