I am 21 and already left consuming sugar...in the beginning it felt a bit difficult but now my taste buds has changed accordingly...now i happily avoid sugar❤...its all about training your body and mind

Alternatives :

Of course, there are much more, you can use which ever is convenient. In our tradition almost everything is used on different occasions depending upon their type and nature.

1. Vellam (Jaggery) - Commonly used sugar alternative in many food items.

2. Panai vellam/ karuppatti (Palm jaggery) - Healthy, rich in iron. Curdles when added in hot milk so need to be added when milk is luke warm.

3. Thaen (Honey) - universally used natural sugar.

4. Naatu chakkarai (Country sugar/Unrefined brown coloured sugar) - used in panchamirtham, nowadays used even in tea coffee shops as an alternative.

5. Kalkandu (crystal sugar/rock sugar) - used in prasadams unlike normal white sugar. Again a good alternative.

6. Panam kalkandu (palm sugar) - helps in curing cough and cold. My mother used to give me some in a box to school to eat often whenever I get cough.

7. Also there is one more Sillu karuppatti / Dry ginger palm candy (palm jaggery added with dry ginger, cardamom and shaped) rich in iron, can be used to satiate sweet tooth, aids digestion.

Unfortunately our body doesn't know if it is a WHITE SUGAR or NATURALLY OCCURING SUGAR. It will convert everything into GLUCOSE for ENERGY. Therefore MODERATION is the KEY.

Quitting sugar completely has been the easiest step towards health for me. I haven't had artificial sugar since 2018 after my 30th birthday. I don't even take jaggery, just fruits. It seemed difficult at first but it took me just a week to adjust.

Still u can't avoid some things even if they r bad for our health. Sugar is not bad until it's overused. So it's fine to use it for some amount.

Please don't call food poison. Everything in moderation is fine. My parents are more than 85 and they have never touched anything other than white sugar. But their style of eating is different. Even if they eat a digestive biscuit with chai they share 1 biscuit. Half piece mithai. Half apple. Basically bite size sweet after food once a day.

According to me (just a little change):-
1. jaggery powder - Goes well with certain sweets or wherever it requires white sugar in certain foods goes helpful. 👍

2. Coconut Sugar - Well, to be honest, I like it pretty well because I use coconut in my daily routine, and I am used of it, so it does help if u have a sweet tooth u can make condensed milk by using just 2 ingredients which is coconut milk and coconut sugar which can be used in pretty much most of the milk sweets or ice cream. (If u don't like the flavor of coconut chances are u will not be liking it in any other foods)

3. Liquid Jaggery - One of the best alternatives because in some sweets other sugar alternatives such as coconut sugar may completely change the taste of the sweet itself and may not be good so liquid jaggery comes in handy and if u wanna enjoy ur tea try with liquid jaggery this time and make sure u add the liquid jaggery while the flame is turned off and continuously stir it then warm up ur tea on low flame and enjoy it trust me if u will drink this tea 2 or 3 times u just get used to this flavor.

4. Honey - Can't go wrong with it but the only major minus point it got is it can't be heated as that causes its antioxidants to lose but times while making smoothies, milkshakes, healthy spreads, etc it does be useful.

5. Date Sugar - Quite a nice alternative. Good for smoothies and all

I use dates as a sweetener even in my baking! As date paste, after soaking them in boling water and then running it in the mixer.

As per your suggestions for following satvic diet and lifestyle, people have to raise their standard of living and spent extra money to be a part of it ....not everyone is effected by white sugar . Our parents are much more healthy as compared to us 🙂🙂, and they never had such options to follow
