The only thing that worked for me was treating sugar as an addiction problem. It helped me make sense of why I can't control eating sugar and why giving up sugar long term is something I have to do to be healthy. I've been "sober" for 3.5 years.

I trained myself to make steak or beef and clean up the mess completely when done whenever I felt a sugar craving. If I wasn't hungry enough with that prompt to go through all the work, I really did not need to eat, even sugar. It still took well over a year, but it can be done. Sugar free for almost 2.5 years now.

Forget that mess....white sugar to me is like liquor for an alcoholic. I know I can't have it, I don't eat it. Coconut sugar is a wonderful replacement

The real problem is, even if I give up sugar, the rest of society hasn't. It's EVERYWHERE. I could stop, but come Christmas time, I wouldn't be able to resist Christmas cookies that are around every corner so to speak. I can only resist so much before I break. And eating in general is such a social thing to do. Eating junk in those situations feels unavoidable... But then, isn't it still ok to have sugar on occasion?
