You are incorrect. If you are exercising to burn calories lifting weights is extremely inefficient. Cardiovascular training is significantly more calorie intensive than lifting. Will gaining muscle net you a higher base metabolic rate? yes. Will being in phenomenal cardiovascular shape net you a higher base metabolic rate than lifting weights. Yes it will. What you are missing is the fact that in order to attain the level of muscularity required to raise your BMR, you will need to lift for months if not years. The same cannot be said for cardio. Not to mention the fact that cardio has a more significant impact on blood sugar, insulin secretion, and glycolysis. You should do both. But lifting weights does not and will not net you the long term fat-loss or calorie burning ability that cardio will.
