Do you constantly feel tired, experience muscle spasms, and notice your eyes twitching? If so, there's a chance that your body is suffering from a magnesium deficiency. A magnesium deficiency can cause serious illness because too many processes in the body depend on it. That’s why you should stay alert and be able to spot a deficiency in time. So, what are some other symptoms of this condition and what can you do to feel better? Bright Side compiled a checklist of magnesium deficiency symptoms.

To avoid magnesium deficiency in the future, decrease your consumption of alcohol, gluten, processed foods, and refined sugar. But before you proceed with any of this self-medication, make sure to consult your doctor first, get their permission, and follow their professional advice.

SUMMARY:
- A burning desire to eat something sweet shows a lack of important nutrients, including chromium and magnesium.
- If you notice that you’ve started to experience muscle soreness and cramps regularly (and you haven’t been hitting the gym harder or anything), it could be your low magnesium levels to blame.
- If you lack magnesium, it’s not surprising at all if you develop insomnia and sleep troubles. Plus, a magnesium deficiency is closely connected to muscle cramps, right? This combo can cause restless leg syndrome.
- Low magnesium levels increase the risk of developing bone problems, especially fractures. And that’s because a low amount of magnesium reduces the level of calcium in your blood as well, making your bones a lot weaker.
- Magnesium prevents the release of food and stomach acid into the esophagus. So if your system lacks it, this process reverses, allowing acid to enter the esophagus.
- Insufficient magnesium basically equals anxiety and constant stress. And this is exactly why your depression may have nothing to do with your emotional side, it could be purely physical!
- The reasons why you may have constipation can vary from stress to a serious under-consumption of fiber. And, of course, magnesium can be a cause of it too!
- Persistent fatigue is a red flag you should always pay attention to. And here’s where magnesium could be the culprit.
- If you lack vitamins A, B, C, and D, it can lead to frequent headaches that usually affect only one side of your head, depending on the vitamin you're lacking.
- One study that was conducted by French researchers showed that magnesium deficiency increases blood pressure.
- Including more of magnesium-rich foods in your diet will help your system recover in just a few weeks.

Most of my health problems I had to figure out and fix myself through research, not my doctors. Don't get me started. 😤

Went to my doc as suggested. He said did not need mag. That is not your problem. I took it anyway. And all the problems was having went away. Sometimes you have to take you health in your own hands because doctors don't make enough money off that. Don't know what I am talking about? I was a nurse for over 20 years.

The only bad advice here is repeatedly telling people to go to the Dr. A traditional Dr would never pick up on the fact that you're magnesium deficient. They'd just load you up with pharmaceuticals 🙄

I DO NOT NEED - OR WANT - A DOCTOR TELLING ME WHAT TO DO WITH MY OWN BODY. I have been MUCH healthier since I researched and took responsibility for my own well being. Doctors (mainly) work for the pharmaceutical industry!

Unfortunately most all doctors don’t have time to help us get to the bottom of a problem. They go to medical school to learn to prescribe drugs, the drugs that offer them a kickback for prescribing.

A friend had a twitching eye. Doc recommended Botox to stop the muscle from twitching. Turned out she was deficient in magnesium. It fixed the problem immediately.

He said consult your doctor often so he wouldn't get into trouble by giving health information

I recently went to the doctor complaining about fatigue, body aches and anxiety. The only thing she prescribed was magnesium, and within a week I started feeling like a new person.

I suffered for many years from migraines, restless leg syndrome, insomnia, muscle cramping, constant fatigue and tension headaches. I ended up on many different meds. Finally I moved to a new town and starting seeing a new doctor. I explained all my issues to her and the first thing out of her mouth was magnesium deficiency. She ran all the necessary tests and it turned out to be exactly that

Doctors only fix symptoms. They don't bother to look for the cause. I, too, have improved my own health greatly by researching for my own solutions.

Oh my goodness. My symptoms: constipation, migraines, acid reflux, insomnia, chronic tiredness. I also have vertigo which wasn't mentioned here. Not a single one of my doctors has come up with any solution. All any of them do is treat the symptoms with drugs. I'm having to figure this out on my own. Thanks for the clue!

Going to the doctor nowadays usually results in a half-assed diagnosis and a prescription for some high priced custom drug which they intend to keep you on for the rest of your life. Dietary recommendations, lifestyle changes, and holistic approaches aren’t practical according to today’s modern medicine smh
