fast breathing from slow walking, faster heart rate when just walking, Being cold all the time and almost fainting when making sudden movements (dizzy standing from sitting) can be signs of iron deficiency too.

Wow I had no idea that low iron could lead to generalized itch. I've struggled with maintaining stable iron levels throughout my life, and dry skin/ itch is definitely something that I've experienced. Thank you for these nutrition-oriented vids!

I had all over itch and was going crazy. Went to my doctor, got tests done and had bad anemia. She then refered me for a colonoscopy and unfortunately I was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Itchiness was the only symptom I had. So please, everyone, look for medical assistant even if you think it may be nothing too serious...

I've been a vegetarian/vegan for almost 10 years while being super low in iron and my hair shed like crazy but I refused to accept it. Then I was diagnosed with androgenetic alopecia but Minoxidil would only work to a certain extent. Now I've been eating meat again for six months and my hair completely stopped shedding. It makes me very sad to do that but after being on a plant based lifestyle for almost a decade, I think it's fair to admit my body doesn't absorb iron and protein from a vegetarian/vegan diet as well as I thought.

I'm 52 low iron. I was craving ice all the time. Shortness of breath is also a symptom. I was so low iron I was almost needing a blood transfusion. I believe the low iron was due to my heavy menstrual cycles. Good info! Thanks!

I had a Ferritin level of 3. I couldn't walk upstairs without being winded and my heart started going into tachycardia randomly. I was miserable and barely able to function. 2 iron infusions later, I felt good again. Never neglect your health. I never will again

Guess I'm going back to eating red meat because I noticed a few of these symptoms after I stopped. 🥩

As always so thorough and informative! As a person with a science n research background I love the depth of information I get from your videos on a topic. It’s like more than an hour’s worth of a journal club with fellow scientists. Love it!

Its amazing how some primary care docs down play iron deficiency, in my experience. Even if it wasn't extreme, it still makes a huge difference when left untreated for a long time.

Thank you for addressing iron deficiency symptoms in darker skin tones- as an RN this was never taught in nursing school.

Everyone understand, and please read this! If you are anemic, they often cannot detect it unless you have an elite lab test. If you have heart pounding, if you walk up the stairs, if you’re tired, you can hear your heart pounding in your ear, if your hair is falling out, your skin is getting really pale get to the doctor as soon as possible. You can die from anemia. When I got to the hospital hem count was three with one being death. I was very very lucky that I knew to check myself into the ER.

I've always struggled with low iron anemia because of heavy menstrual cycles. Tried to go the natural route, but my doctor was too concerned that my organs would start to shut down and put me on birth control. Though I don't love being on hormones, it has helped a lot and I'm now back to normal iron levels. The pica is real though, I craved ice like it was a drug!

I experienced many symptoms of iron deficiency for so many years. My hair was thinning, my skin went from oily to extremely dry, vertical nail ridges, and MAJOR problems with no energy. I saw multiple Dr’s and no one could figure out what was wrong. They all did the common blood tests, but everything was normal. It wasn’t until a new Dr tested my ferritin that I got an answer. My ferritin was a 7! Wish I had known to ask for that test!

For me, my low iron was due to the fact that I was consuming gluten and gluten in my body inhibits iron absorption. Had very dry skin and fainting spells from time to time. Would also feel lightheaded if you squat down and get back up. Cutting out gluten and taking iron supps once in a while helps.

I have struggled with anemia most of my life. A nurse told me that drinking OJ with iron pills will help your body absorb it because of the vitamin C. I try to eat a lot of beets too. Even with prenatal vitamins, I was very anemic during my pregnancies. I also have mitral valve prolapse which makes me more lethargic. I have always had hard cycles and bled a lot. Dry heaving, horrible intense pain, cold sweats were a normal monthly part of my cycles before having babies. Men have it easy. I can't wait for menopause!
