“Studies and clinical trials revealed that chronic consumption coffee is associated with the inhibition of several metabolic diseases as well as reduction in overall and cause-specific mortality. We show that both natural and decaffeinated brands of coffee similarly rapidly trigger autophagy in mice. One to 4 h after coffee consumption, we observed an increase in autophagic flux in all investigated organs (liver, muscle, heart)”

Why does it help with autophagy?
-high polyphenol load

What does research say about coffee?
-reduces cancer, heart disease, respiratory disease, stroke, diabetes, and infections
-liver, breast, endometrial, prostate, and colon cancer
-dose dependent (benefits max out at 6cups/dy)

“Large studies involving large cohorts of individuals have demonstrated that coffee consumption is inversely associated with total and cause-specific mortality, both in males and in females. The consumption of coffee is associated with a reduction of cancer, heart disease, respiratory disease, stroke, diabetes, and infections (both in males and females).1-3 These effects are dose-dependent (with a plateau of 6 cups per day) and do not depend on caffeine content, because both decaffeinated and caffeinated coffee were similarly associated with improved health”

Hi Dr Mindy, you always ask for feedback and to know what we would like to learn. I have watched many of your videos and they are very detailed for the beginner but also very good. I am slowly learning where I should be heading, what I should be doing and the more I watch the more I begin to understand. One thing though, I have not found anywhere and would help me A LOT is a video or article on a sample of meals, what to eat on a day during different fasts and/or keto/ketobioitic/OMAD, etc. eating and any other eating styles you recommend. Not just food lists. It would be great to see or read "meals of a day in the life of a ketobiotic faster" for example. I would love a menu for a day or a week to give me some idea of where to start. Thanks

There’s one point I would like to make. Black coffee makes it so much easier to go through a period of fasting. So for me coffee is mandatory during fasting, the caffeine makes me alert, and the taste of the black coffee gives me a psychological feeling of eating. I would have a very hard time fasting without coffee.
My 2 tips for person’s who have newer tried fasting are:
1: sip good coffee
2: Make the fasting on a workday, the razzmatazz of work and transportation takes the focus away from the lack of food, and the 8 eight hours of sleep does the rest.

My personal regimen is a 25 hour fast once a week starting after breakfast and running till the following day with a slightly delayed breakfast. Not difficult at all!

This confirms what I experienced when I went off of coffee when I was drinking organic coffee versus non-organic coffee. It made me realize the headaches and heavy withdrawals had more to do with the chemicals than the caffeine/coffee itself. It's an eye opener.

I think it’s Dr. Rhonda Patrick who is against coffee. She says it breaks the fast. I’ve been 18:6 fasting for a year and a half with coffee and lost 20 kg so I’d have to say it works even if you drink coffee.

Science never seems to stay settled regarding coffee so I'm just going to enjoy my latte and attempt to fix other areas, like wanting to binge on Christmas cookies.

Yes very good information. I was actually wondering about mold toxins in coffee and I had drank a shot today reluctantly during my autophagy fast. I will no longer drink coffee that is toxic. This is an important factor that isn't mentioned about particulars of coffee in fasting on YouTube. And very happy you recommend a coffee that avoids mold not just pesticides. I have been looking for one. Thanks.

I read the cortisol/adrenaline from coffee raises your blood sugar, signals your body to release glucose. For women, this is how cortisol contributes/causes belly fat. I drink black coffee in the morning during my 18/6 fast. At dinner time, I sometimes put in full fat organic cream.
During the rest of the day, I drink green tea, lemon and ginger 🫚 water, carrot juice or greens juice with my salad and protein for brunch at 1 or 2 pm. ☕️ Coffee definitely helps me through my day and I know it's good for me. I use organic espresso in a French press. (as Dr.Mindy recommended) and all my gut issues are gone and I have ENERGY and I have lost now
23 pounds in 6 months. I began intermittent fasting on April 1st, 2024. Ketogenic nutrition plan. If coffee had not been an integral part of my journey to better health, I really don't know how I would have managed. I am now only 3 pounds away from my goal weight of 110 pounds. Very very happy and feeling FINE at 74 years old. ❤
