You should avoid drinking coffee as soon as you wake up. The role of caffeine in alertness and feeling awake is that it blocks adenosine receptors. If you have coffee within the first (roughly) 90 minutes of waking up, the adenosine hasn't been completely cleared - and since you blocked the receptors, the adenosine cannot be cleared. You end up reopening them in the middle of the day (when the caffeine wears off) and receive all the built up adenosine at once. This is what causes the mid day "crash". It has nothing to do with hydration.

That’s not the main reason to avoid coffee in the morning, the main reason is due to the spike in cortisol your body naturally produces when you wake up. That’s typically why when you get up it’s hard to fall back asleep. If you add caffeine to that, it would make the crash harder.

You can drink coffee after 3 hours of you waking up, then you can actually see if you are truly tired due to the cortisol diminishing. If you are super tired you can drink coffee with 200 mg of L-Theanine and immediately take a quick power nap for 25-30 minutes at the same time, the power nap enables the caffeine in coffee to work better at blocking adenosine receptors along with the calmness that L-Theanine to help you be better productive.

First time I've had to correct Sean: studies clearly show that drinking coffee in the morning will disrupt your natural cortisol levels. You should wait 60-90 minutes before drinking coffee.

Not sure who's on the right in this one. Drinking coffee first thing is the morning is bad because is it replaces natural occuring rise in cortisol and can kinda interrupt the ciciliac rythym, also that way u get resistance to caffeine much easier. On top of that, adenosine blockage will lead to the energy crash you will feel 6-8 hours after drinking coffe (I'd recommend drinking it 0.5-2 hours after waking up) sorry for bad english but I hope I helped

I've quit coffee when I had tough financial situation, now I'm well off and still refuse to drink it, not of health reasons or whatever, I just don't need it anymore since I lived without it and know the difference.

I've been listening to a podcast by Andrew Huberman, he's a neuroscientist, he talked about this and said that its not the best thing to drink coffee as soon as you wake up, reason is that your brain releases a pulse of cortisol and other chemicals to help you get in a state of alertness, the coffee will delay this pulse causing some issues with sleep and other stuff, you guys should go and listen to him I probably cut too short the explanation besides my english is really bad, still love Sean content

It doesn't dehydrate you but if you drink it first thing it can lead to an energy crash around midday, Andrew Huberman talked about the science behind it. Apparently waiting 90 mins after waking is best practice to avoid crashes.
