Coffee is that which gives me life. Must protect.

Fun fact: there have been several studies showing that merely smelling coffee aids concentration, recall, and performance on tests, even when you haven't had any yourself. As a college student and coffee lover, I find that pretty cool.

Day 34 no caffeine. I think of it time to time but really don’t miss it. My drug of choice was a 5 hour energy a day, even when I didn’t feel I needed it. Ordered the stuff two cases at a time from Walmart and Amazon. Looked forward to the 5 min initial pick me up. I know, sad. Had to let it go. Too much anxiety. Replaced Starbucks. 17 years of caffeine to feel upbeat and energetic. Not how long it will last. Be encouraged.

I’m glad you talked about caffeine and it’s effects on nervousness. I owned a coffee shop for years in a college town with a very popular medical school. This made me very careful about how much caffeine my regulars consumed. I had a lovely gal come in every day for a 6 shot latte! 6 shots a day was our cut off for everyone, so I would only sell her one of these drinks a day. After some time I asked her to please be honest with me, did she go to any other coffee shops in the town to get her drink? She admitted she went to two or three other shops to buy it every day! Call it barista intuition, but I asked her if she suffered from schizophrenia. She looked totally shocked and began crying telling me how the voices were tormenting her and she was having several panic attacks a day! I asked her to please consider going decaf for a while. Well, I didn’t see this gal for two weeks! When she returned, she looked better than I had ever seen her! The color of her checks was better, her eyes looked better, she wasn’t jittery. She hugged me and began crying. She had quit caffeine cold turkey after our conversation, and wanted me to know the voices were gone! She explained how she suffered for years with the condition and was on all kinds of meds for it but nothing helped. After stopping all caffeine she also tossed out her meds and waited two weeks to see what happened. Her sleep cycle returned, her appetite came back, the scary voices were gone, and she felt human again! I couldn’t believe that in a medical town no doctor spoke with her about her caffeine addiction! It took a barista to straighten her out! So, all you baristas out there, remember, you are selling a drug. It’s a mild and very socially acceptable drug but a drug nonetheless. It’s our responsibility to educate our customers if they are using coffee in a dangerous way. I have wondered how many psychosis patients are actually self inflicted by abusing caffeine? I’ll leave that question for the doctors reading this.

I'd love a version for the tea drinkers! There has to be more to tea that isn't common knowledge

Thanks for the informative video Dr. Mike. I'm not going to stop drinking coffee, but I'm definitely going to limit my intake after seeing this

Watching this after experimenting with caffeine drinks (energy drinks, coffee) and taking psychology where we learned about drugs and addiction (how they affect the brain and how certain chemicals like coffee and sugar can become addicting because of that feel-good aftermath) I love watching this and videos like this :)

I hope that someday you become some of the videos used for science classes like biology and psychology Cuz I love learning from you!

For me, coffee is less of a focused, productive energy, and more of a "Im still really tired, but now I'm incapable of falling asleep" energy.

I would definitely like a follow-up video exploring current clinical research on using caffeine to treat ADHD. I find it interesting that amphetamines are often perscribed to treat ADHD since this a family of stimulants and vasoconstrictors just as caffeine also is. I have seen clinical research concluding both for and against using caffeine as a cheaper and less-regulated substitute for amphetamines to treat ADHD, so it would be nice to have an unbiased presentation showing both sides of clinical research in this area.

When he mentioned: why does coffee make your hand cold. That IMMEDIATELY made me think of that video where he was talking to people on the street to give them medical advice and that one woman who said her hands are always cold. I wonder if she is just a coffee addict or something.

I've actually stopped drinking two shots of coffee everyday and it's been reduced to 1 shot every couple days, turned out I had a serious defficiency in iron. After receiving pills and such, and adding more to my diet, I haven't felt like I needed coffee. I kind of just drink it now because I like it. I'm going to have another blood test done soon to see how it's going. Doctor I was with picked up on my symptoms (headaches, always sleepy, loss of appetite) and it's doing wonders for my tiredness. Hope you guys all wake up feeling refreshed! Best of luck!

Hey Doctor Mike I've been watching your channel for a very long time now and I love how you specify all the things that may happen to you when you do certain things.

So my cousin was wondering if you can make a video for creating a stronger metabolism if you are able to do so.

Btw old new subscriber 🙃😌

I drank coffee religiously for over 10 years and always brushed off my sweaty underarms and looking like a sped up cartoon because I enjoyed the taste of it and it was part of my morning routine. It became a problem earlier this year when it started making have really bad anxiety, sleep problems and my energy levels were awful. I needed a cup of Joe before I went anywhere so that I could have that feeling that it gave me to function. I have now been off of coffee for 6-7 months I feel better than before.

"It replaces the water you lose" - I love how he mentions this, far too many people believe you're going to get completely dehydrated by drinking coffee and they don't even look at the caffeine density (how much caffeine there is per unit of liquid)...

1:44 I knew It !!! I was always feeling like I’m gonna die after drinking coffee or tea aka panic/ anxiety attack and I would avoid drink it and people ask me why and when I tell them it’s make me feel not ok, they would not take me serious and just ignore me and call me paranoid!! I’m so relieved to know I’m not paranoid
