5 Signs You Should Consider Therapy

Is your mental health taking time for the worse? Have you been experiencing self destructive thoughts or habits? Do you feel you have no more control over your thoughts? Maybe it's time to consider trying therapy. Although therapy often has a social stigma, we encourage the Psych2Go community to recognize that therapy can improve life for us all. Psych2Go is a platform to help reduce the stigma associated with mental health problems. Sometimes, to do that, we ourselves have to be willing to take the first step towards therapy ourselves. There are many free resources online and offline out there too if we take the time to look for them.

I simply cannot genuinely open up to people I don’t know. I can barely do it with people I do know 😂 exercising, eating well, making sleep a priority, and not drinking have all helped me immensely.

I am in therapy. I was in high functioning depression and anxiety thinking too much about the past when times were good. I hit a breaking point and found a therapist that is perfect for me. I've been going for two years and it has been life changing. She has taught me coping skills and worked through trauma in my childhood I have kept for far too long. I only wish I had started therapy sooner. Please, if you need help, get it. It will make you life better.

My wife, she needs therapy, I begged and pleaded to her to try therapy and she rather chose to divorce me. I am going through therapy myself to understand her behavior and temperament in her difficult time since she started behaving distant. It will be a year now in August, therapy is essential for your mental hygiene, I learnt so much. Thank you, Psych2go. You're one of the key reasons I am more aware of the mental health issues.

Here's the thing though...

This video paints a romantic vision of therapy, where every outcome is always positive or productive. Where, in truth, a multitude of factors could result in therapy making you either no better or even worse off:

1. Bad therapists, this is the obvious one, your therapist either doesn't understand your situation, uses destructive techniques or goes round in circles. Depending on the institution, they could even be threatening by requesting institutionalisation.

2. Money/Lack of coverage. Not everyone has the luxury of affording a therapist and the ones that do may question if such a venture is even worthwhile financially. Most nations, even first world nations have grossly underfunded/understaffed mental health services that make accessing therapy difficult if not impossible.

3. External Factors. Not everything is your fault, and sometimes you ACTUALLY can't do anything about it: Maybe you live in a place where public areas don't exist, maybe you live in an abusive household that refuses to allow you to leave, maybe there's a greater societal bias against you that makes confrontation an unwinnable situation. A therapist could identify a problem, but can't give a solution.


Please, please, PLEASE don't ignore this message, Psych2Go, you can't solve every mental health problem with the therapy card and I really recommend making a "5 signs you should NOT consider therapy" video.

I’ve been so mentally down recently. I can’t get out of bed easily, I feel miserable after eating 2 meals. I feel so mentally null. But good enough, I’m getting therapy. Today I’m going to talk to my new therapist to elaborate about what I want to achieve. I hope you guys one day cna all get the help you need, and if you cant, just hold on, i believe in you, i’m proud of you for already getting this far. have a good day/night

I've always wanted, and most importantly, NEEDED therapy, but who said health care is free? Here in our country it's HELLA expensive, with even fewer therapists because people can't afford it, which makes it more expensive because there's less help in the industry, sounds stupid coming from an 18 yrs old, but I'm guessing me pushing everyone away and asking if either I'm too out-going or if people are UNAPPROACHABLE, isn't normal

I had my doubts but after I almost went over the edge May 2021 I decided to seek therapy. I may not have missed too well with my first counselor but after doing a little bit of digging I found one that really gets me thinking it has helped me achieve some of the goals I’ve set for myself. I know it’s scary to open up to a stranger but these people are true professionals and most know what they’re doing.

Believe me it does help.

I definitely need therapy after watching this. 4 out of 5 of these signs I have. Ive boxed myself in for over 10yrs and not knowing how many years has passed. I missed out on so much of myself because of my own negative inner thoughts. I should of been seek therapy years ago and now I dont know if its too late. I lost my girlfriend my mom my family and even myself. Im in a very dark space right now and dont know how I even got here. Now I have heart problems along with waking up and going to sleep crying. I stay alone and have no true friends, i believe thats what making it worse. I pray multiple times a day and struggling to keep my faith. Im seeking therapy starting tommorrow. My relationship with my gf might be over especially after catching her talking to other men about me so that made it worse. Having support from my job does help but its not nearly enough but im grateful for that. Please keep me in yall prayers

Last week I finally went to get assessed for mental illnesses after a year of watching your videos. Thank you so much for helping me develop confidence in finding out my inner problems with your content.

I haven’t gotten my results back, however I know that once I do I’ll be one step closer into finding a solution and taking back my life :)

Edit: Got my results back, Depression and Anxiety. Been working on challenging the negativity in my mind and reconstructing my maladaptive thinking ever since!

My sister framed me for 7 years during my childhood. My parents didn't believe me which only reinforced her behavior. My parents sent me to see a therapist who also didn't beleive my side of the story. My only option was to lie my way through therapy. I know i need a therapist to get through the trauma this has caused me that has lingered for the past 23 years, but due to my past experience i can't bring myself to trust a therapist.

Therapy saved me and I’m still not even done. It helped me realize so much. It helped my inner face become my everyday face 😊.

I love knowing I’m trans and transitioning and it’s all thanks to therapy.

And trust me I did not want to start it because of social stigma. Just remember being afraid and still going is the bravest thing you can do.

Yes, You should consider for therapy asap.
I had the opinion that therapists are thugs who loot money but when I was undergoing turmoil I recognised their importance.
Currently I am undergoing therapy in India's best Psychiatrist Institute,
named Central Institute of Psychiatry located at Kanke, Ranchi, Jharkhand .
My counselor is from Kerala and my Psychiatrist is an Associate Professor at this institute.
Both of them had been very cooperative to me in times of my need since a year and a half.
Very soon I would thank them for their kind gesture, may be on 15th August, 2022.

I really really wish I could go to therapy. But a massive reason I'm so broken is because of therapy itself.
Last time I almost went to a session, I cancelled last minute and almost drank myself to death.
I so want help, but I can't do it.
