Goggins runs for 8 hours, swims for 3 hours, ride the bike 6 hours, carry the boats for 4 hours, stretch for 2 hours, take a 1 hour nap and do it all over again.

Goggins doesnt train for hypertrophy, he trains for pain, and then progressively overloads that the madman

Many people make the mistake of thinking that Goggins' goal is optimal fitness. His goal is mental toughening. He's closer to a monk than a fitness influencer.

In his book he explains his situation.

His body was so tight he was bed ridden for months. There was a lump on the back of his neck and doctors couldn’t figure out why. That was until he met a man (I forget his name) and he enticed David to start stretching. I believe he was in his late 30s at the time.

He would stretch for four hours at a time and the pain was immense. Eventually, he was finally able to move again and the lump on his neck went away

The important thing to know about David Goggins in this regard is that his knees are severely damaged, as in no cartilage left, bone on bone, and suffers from lots of pain. Hence certain habits like 2 hours of stretching. So he is not an example of what to do by any means, but he is a very inspiring human and has a crazy story.

Goggins wrote in his book that after 20 years of service in the SEALS, his body was so tense and so wound up that it takes daily stretch session of 2 hours to undo the YEARS of torture his body went through. He explains that his sympathetic nervous system was so shot and the relief it sensed from stretching is almost what brought him back from never exercising again.

In fact, he was so ill at one point that he thought he was dying. It turns out, stretching saved his life.

He stretches for 2 hours because he NEEDS to. He doesn’t just stretch a couple muscles, he stretches all of them each night, to the best of his ability. That’s why it takes so long. No shortcuts.

When I did gymnastics, we would sometimes have clinics where we would stretch for 2 hours and then do each event for 2 hours. That was only a few times a year though (about a 14 hour day).

I love how the Rich Piana 8 hour arm workout is really bad specifically because it's hard and painful, yet stretching is supposed to be hard and painful lol. For the record I'm an elite level freerunner, weightlifter and mixed martial artists, I actually know my shit when it comes to stretching, soft and gentle stretching with no pain what so ever is how you stretch correctly, you're basically trying to calm down the brain and get it to give you flexibility, so you treat stretching like a relaxation massage where you are trying to become as zen as possible. Stretching like this gives you way more gains, and way less damage from tearing

In one of his books, he talks about how his body became so tight from extreme training that blood flow was restricted and it seemed that he was sick and the doctors didn’t know what was wrong. Long story short extensive stretching helped reverse his condition and stretches extensively now

As a gymnast I can confirm u DONT NEED 2 hours a day, 30 mins tops of hard stretching will make u flexible

I do the stretching while watching your videos( but maybe like 20 to 30 mins and sometimes feel sore after), been doing it as a new years resolution, lost 22lbs in fat, still building muscle, going 5 times a week for 1, 5h into the gym after work, eating more healthy, while working full time as a nurse. Helped me stop smoking and in general free time management.
