Say it with me: your bird doesn't hate you it's prob just TERRIFIED bc it's a prey animal and we are LARGE, it's very easy to scare them.

I just got my bird today, and we bonded on the car ride home. He wouldn't get in his cage when I brought him home, he just wanted to cuddle 😭. He even rolled over on his back to sleep. When I leave the room he screams, so I have a permit cuddle budy lolol

-put your birds in a room where your family or other members in the house frequent where they can get used to the environment
-spend time around your bird's cage
-pay attention to your bird's body language
-use positive reinforcement
-BE PATIENT. if you rush things you're just making it harder on yourself because then you're making the bird distrust you even more.

I got my sun conure last week and have been feeling a bit lost in how to gain my birds trust and create a bond with her. This really gave me a lot of insight and it helped educate me a lot on how to! Thank you so much <3

They cant step up yet but im patient enough! So conclusion, if your trying to gain your bird's trust, it wont just take an hour sometimes it takes weeks so be patient and goodluck!

I love this video!!!! I have tired all of these and they worked!!! We rehomed two parrots who were homed "twice" before us...so they had fears.... biting.... and they are doing amazing!!! We got them a new cage, lots of toys.. and we have a room with toys and play gyms and swings that allow them to choose cage or room.. they stopped biting and are stepping up and recalling. We also allowed their wings to grow in as they were always kept cut and this has helped them soooo much I think with bonding.. its like they don't have this helpless fear now.. and we taught them how to fly without crashing and being afraid and now they LOVE flying and singing and chattering.. <3 excellent video!

I love your second tip. That's what I did when I got my birds. I sat on the sofa, about 10 feet away from the bird cage, watching movies. I left the door to the bird cage open and figured they'd come out when they were ready. They did. I think the zero-pressure approach is why they lost their fear of me as quickly as they did.

With my cockatiels I find that speaking softly to them can really calm them down, after all these years (10+). Whenever they freak out of something (sudden loud noise on TV or a quick shadow of a bird flying outside), just talking softly calms them down really quickly.

As for teaching them to step on the perch - we have one here that now only wants to step on the perch and is disgusted by hands 🤣😂 so, if possible, try teaching them to step up on the hand straight away, even by saying "step up" so they can associate these word with an action you want them to do.

Otherwise you covered it pretty much! Good job 👍

One of my birds let me preen him and cuddle him around 1 year of having him, the other, who I got at the same time is just beginning to let me preen him and it’s been 3-4 years, just shows how different each bird can be

HEY!!! I recently got an albino budgie and am struggling to get it to bond with me (he's quite shy so that's probably why!!) and this vid really helped me it's only been like a day and we are doing soo much more together and he trusts me so much more...so trusting he decided to preen my eyebrows and lashes, which, I thought is sooo adorable!!! thank you soooo much from the bottom of my heart you have changed the lives of all my birds!!
disclaimer: I've owned all sorts of birds from a very young age, I gust haven't had a budgie for a few years but a Kakariki who is more intelligent than a budgie, therefore it's a different taming process, I simply just need this as a refresher and might I ad THIS GIRL KNOWS WHATS SHES DOIN PEEPS! also as she said it takes time these things won't happen overnight especially if you haven't had your bird for long.

My lovebird bonded to me on day one ( because of how lovebirds are) but it took me a whole year to fully tame her and learn her personality. She used to bite everyone else but me and it took a lot of time to tame that. So it truly does take time and doesn't happen overnight.

I think it is impressive how "calm" your birds are. We got a young cornure as yours. She is so lovely but she has a hang to bite. We tried not to take away our fingers but is bites quite hard. Even when we train to get on the fingers. We also encounter the problem that she bites everything (even the stiff she should not) and when you try o get the attention to other things you get a nice bite... and she flies back. She is very young, so maybe this is the reason of her extreme excitement.

I have 4 rescued cockatiels. It's a challenge to gain their trust and it's a slow process. I don't know what their journey was before they came to me. Your video was very good and reminded me to be more patient.
