I have narcissistic personality disorder ( NPD ) and I've been in therapy for my personality disorder since 2017 and it has definitely changed my life because without it, I would have lost everything.

Yes, Ex used to call his ex wife beautiful, but me Once he said "you're kinda cute. " Upon leaving him he called me ugly. That sealed his fate.

You become conditioned to being treated badly. They starve you of quality care and affection. After his abuse friends and fam showered me with compliments and I love yous. It felt soo awkward. The narc deprives you of this for so long It was like being with an evil robot.

The hotter I look the more he refuses to compliment me. He likes to treat me like a buddy. Even calls me 'dude.' It's so crazy. Meanwhile every other guy in the room is tripping over himself and walking into door frames looking at me🤣

Was raised in a household & family of a long line of several narcissists so i was programmed from childhood to NEVER EVER ask for any sort of compliment however innocent or i would get my ass handed to me on a platter. Including 5 year old me asking if they liked my art drawing 🥴

I actually have a "friend" who does this. He thinks it's ok and funny! If he does give anyone a compliment it's a back handed one. For example the other day I was sitting in my car (we live in the same apartment complex) he walks over to say hi. When he approached he says, what's that smell coming from your car? I said, I don't know maybe the air freshener vent clips. He said, oh ok whatever it is it's very sweet, I thought it was you but you're way to old to be smelling like that. That smell is for young women but it does smell really nice! I was so confused and offended at the same time. After telling him how offended I was by his comment he said, OMG you're to sensitive can't you just appreciate the compliment. When was there a compliment given in that exchange? I find myself mentally exhausted whenever we're done talking.
