This actually helped me understand what people mean when they describe context based languages.

This is one good way to explain why language in text is complicated and drawn-out, but casual speech is short and based on visual context.

My middle school friend and I had a "secret language" that started out from us ending every word with "-us" to satirise the way people talked when they tried to sound like they were speaking ancient Latin. This then evolved to us replacing pretty much every vowel with random other vowels "to add emotional context to the statement", and also I think to indicate word type (probably because we originally tried to adjust the Latin influence, where -us is usually only an ending for nouns?). All of which we eventually got tired of and just replaced every vowel with E. There was a point where it had accidentally developed into a genuine secret language that we could understand without being understood by others, but it quickly grew too tiresome, and we resolved to only referencing select words in our language during everyday speech as a joke. "Wehweh" was an abstracted form of "Wehwus", meaning "Wow." Fun times.

This reminds me of JJK and the dude that speaks entirely in sushi ingredients. He’s really easy to understand after a season or so. Simple languages are quick to learn.

Simply add Fruit to indicate positive and Fungus to indicate negative and it could be done in writing!

This sounds like a theatre game. I may have to suggest this to my acting class.

I was expecting them to have different things for different words within the category, like bread, pasta; lettuce, broccoli; onion, ginger

I once had an entire conversation with a friend at school through the word "Eh", and cues like body language, expressions, the tone and length of the "eh". It wasn't planned or anything. It just started with him yelling "EHH" at me instead of hello, and I managed to complain about my bad morning, and get empathy from him, with variations on a single sound.

Communication is a fascinating skill.

One time me and my friend decided to just not talk. We communicated by gesturing. The teacher tried to talk to us but we successfully communicated that we weren’t talking and she basically just shrugged. It was horticulture so we were basically doing landscaping to expand the garden, and me and my buddy were coordinating labor without saying a word. Eventually other people caught on and it was just a bunch of kids silently pointing and working. That shit was pretty fun.
