T-D-Lauer! 1 month of following a ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting and I’m definitely smaller and have better energy. You’ve taught me that I don’t have a bad metabolism because it’s slow, rather I have a buddy that’s really good at storing energy. I’m over 50 and I really appreciate the extra tips and science, thank you so much

TD, I am at war with sarcopenia and I refuse to give quarter. I am 71. I work out 5 days a week. I am trying to get to a 315 barbell bench press and currently I am at 265. I incline press 80-85 pound dumbbells for 10 reps. Been lifting 6 years. It is a battle but I intend to defy the odds. I eat lots of eggs, fish, chicken and red meat. No junk food. I am trying to pay no attention to my age. It's just a number. It is fun.

I started a carnivore diet and I LOVE it. I feel better than ever. I'll be 57 tomorrow.

I'm 50 and am as lean and strong at 175lb as my youth.
Getting about 140-180 grams/day does the job.
Here is a sample day..
Grass fed beef.. 40-80g (1-2 servings)
Whey.. 30-60g (1-2 servings)
Collagen.. 20g
Pasture eggs.. 25g
Basically 40g/4x, or 50g/3x daily.

This is, in general, my support for doing 2MAD instead of OMAD, and eating three meals the day after resistance training, usually starting my next day with scrambled eggs, or something like that. To balance this, I skip a day of eating (or two) on the weekend, resetting my insulin level to keep it low overall.

I'm 66-years old. I consume 1, 840-calories per day and my macros are 5%-carbs, 25%-protein, 70%-fat and I weigh 160-pounds. The only way for me to stay within those parameters and consume 160-grams of protein per day is to eat high protein/low fat foods. I will be adding white fish, skinless poultry and pork loin to my diet. To maintain 1, 840-calories per day and 5-% carbs per day my new macros will be 35%-protein, 60%-fat. This topic must be trending, because my neighbor sent me a similar video today. Also, my doctor this week asked me about my protein intake. Good information.

Thank you for this Thomas! My father is 93, his mind is sharp, but he has no muscle. So he’s barely ambulatory. That has incentivized me to add muscle, but I seem to have been hitting a wall. I’m down to my bodyweight when I was playing football in high school, but I wasn’t adding muscle the way I hoped. This video totally explained what I needed to know. Thank you sir!

Funnily enough, I could not build muscle in my teens due to being overweight and insulin resistant. After a couple years of keto, and then a few months of doing fasts, I added carbs around my workouts and absolutely exploded in muscle size. Now that I'm metabolically healthy, I'm not really keto anymore and can tolerate a higher carb diet, but I will fast and use keto in the future.

Very interesting. I'm 72 and this is the most interesting video from you I've seen yet as far as it relating to me personally. I'm a blood type O+ and I surely need my protein.

I recommend trying the Agoge diet if you want to build muscle as fast as possible. It worked awesome for me.

Great info! Would love to see another video that digs into protein requirements when keto-fasting (alt-day).
Based on your suggested avg daily protein intake I would have to consume over 360 grams of protein on my eating day.
I've been following a keto diet for one month while doing alternate day fasting (36/12) with carb refeeds every 10 days.
I've lost 20 pounds and not much muscle based on my performance in the gym.

60 yo, 5'11", currently 210, targeting 180.
Eating day: 2193 Kcal; 116g protein – 21%; 32g carbs – 6%; 201g fat – 73%

Thank you. At age 63, I am always looking for information on how to keep my health span as positive as possible. Workout guidance for over 60s would be appreciated, too.
