For those who don't have much time...

1.Sourdough is one of the best due to fermentation
2. Pumpernickel is just as good as sourdough plus is high in fiber
3. Ezekiel or "sprouted" breads rather than flour breads
4. Flax and Chia - but watch the carb/fat content
5. Other low-carb, keto breads - brands like Sola, SaraLee Delightful Multigrain, Aunt Millies Live Carb Smart, Joseph's Lavash (flat, wrap, pita) Bread, and lastly Kiss My Keto. Some of these are available in stores but mostly online.

Also, as a diabetic I've found that Rye bread and other Rye derivatives (marble Rye, Jewish Rye, seeded and seedless Rye) also have lower net carbs and higher fiber content than standard breads, but he didn't mention these.

*NO WHITE BREAD OR BAGELS

You're welcome!

18 BC? The Egyptians were very skilled at making beer and bread in 3000 BC. It's the foam off of fermenting beer that was the yeast source for bread in Bible times. Sourdough was and is made from a starter. Casting out the leaven was a good way of cleaning up old and maybe bad toxic fermentations, aka spring cleaning.

I am a type 2 diabetic and found a high protein bread at Aldi, it is put out frozen and I keep in refrigerator.
KETO Certified, 3 gm fiber, 10 gm of protein per slice. 100 calories. Named Loven Fresh.
I am a bread lover and only eat 2 slices a day. My blood sugar actually goes lower after eating.

TRULY GRATEFUL for your willingness to address healthy breads. So tired of everyone saying all grains are bad. I am pre-diabetic and I grind my own bread and eat in moderation; I soak my grains before making the bread to ferment it; I grind beans and lentils too, and mix it in w/ pizza dough and pancake recipes. Also freeze my bread after cooking to increase resistive starches. There are ways to work some grain into your life with moderation.

I use Aldi's Protein Bread which had 7g of carbs per slice but 4g of fiber. While it is made with wheat flour it is also made with flax and sunflower seeds. (I keep it in the fridge.)

The Finnish Rye Bread is amazing. It does not affect at all my blood sugar level. I was diagnosed with diabetes after I started baking YouTube recipes. For a person who never baked anything I felt like a chef. Unfortunately the sudden increase in my intake of flour and sugar pushed my blood sugar over the limit. I am now able to control my blood sugar level with NO MEDICATION just by changing my diet and lifestyle. NO MORE PASTA OR RICE or any other type of carbs. I eat a lot of beans, chickpeas, lentils, salad and sometime fish. I have 2 secret ingredients that helped me to fight diabetes without any medication: ALMONDS & FINNISH REAL RYE BREAD. Not all rye breads are real. I also walk 1 hour a day and that effects my blood sugar by 2 points. Instead of 5.7 I will go down to 4.6. You can eat extremely well without touching to flour and sugar. I sometime have a craving for a good croissant but I can survive without it.

I’m on a ketogenic diet and was pre diabetic last year ( was A1C of 6.1, now 5.5 ) I really miss enjoying good bread, I found I can have about 100grams of carbs and not be knocked out of ketosis, I’ve recently been enjoying Dave’s 21 whole grain bread for a peanut butter and sugar free jam and this has made my belly happy. This keto life has completely reversed all my bad numbers and I want to continue with what works and be healthy. Thank you for your advice on bread I can enjoy.😁✌️

When I was first diagnosed with diabetes, I went through a lot of different breads and found that the only bread that didn't spike my glucose was Natures Own Honey Wheat. I also found that the cheap brand wheat breads are usually just white bread with caramel coloring and will make you spike quickly. Now I know everyones system works different and this is just my experience. As for thr bread you've recomended, I live in Northwest Florida, and havent seen those particular bread brands.

Thanks for this video! I have had Diabetes 2 for over 20 years and bread is my #1 food that I love and am not supposed to have. Now I know where to look. Thanks again. Diabetes2 is a hard thing to have to live with, especially in this fast-paced world full of all kinds of delicious breads and other goodies.

Another option is baking bread, which carbs and fiber can be controlled based on the flour used. I love sourdough bread but still have to be careful with the commercial ones. Some are very high in carbs. I found a bread at Aldi's. Simply Nature "Knock your sprouts off." 13 g carbs, 2g fiber, 9 g protein, dairy, egg free and reduced sodium.
One of the best options for me has always been flat breads. I found roti at an Indian market-2 pieces is 15 carbs but I only use 1. Also a tortilla at Trader Joe's called Carb Saavy which has 9 Carbs for 1.
