I had a job delivering pizza. There were many protective signs on our customer's homes. "Nothing in here is worth your life" was the one that impressed me. It does not directly threaten you and it does not tell you what to expect, just your death.

once as i went down a dirt road i came upon three signs, the first said "no tresspassing private road" the second said "tresspassers will be prosecuted" and the third said "so far you have ignored two warnings, do not expect a welcome reception !", right about then i decided to turn around.keep up the good work!

There's one sign I've seen that stuck with me. I'm a delivery driver so I see all kinds of signs so they don't bother me much... but one that cracked me up but freaked me out a little was at a farm that said "Abandon hope all ye who enter here"

Best sign you could have: no sign at all. Why? #1 a threatening sign is a dead giveaway that you have something worth protecting. #2 a sign works as a landmark and can give away your position that may have otherwise been missed. #3 with a sign you lose the element of surprise, which is very bad if you're trying to remain concealed and observe.

Dont go looking for it
Avoid looking like you have something somebody else wants
Be prepared
React with the most violence and speed youre capable of. When its time to go hot, its time to go hot. There is no easing into that. Immediate response, not thought is needed.

A neighbor had one that I always liked that had a bullseye & said "If you can read this, you've been in range for 5 minutes." This conveys seriousness, while also implying that you have a good view & long range capabilities, and that their escape route is also observable. Of course, this only makes sense in open prairie type land

Seriously though, there are some interesting lessons from that movie, like when Kevin Mccallister made it seem like his house was full of people, when he was the only person home at the time. Some of those improv ideas had alot of merit.

The biggest problem with the "House Looted meet at Aunt Mary's" sign is that it implies the property is vacant. If I think the property is vacant, then, what the hell, why NOT have a look around? It actually invites people in. I don't think you want to ever imply a vacant property.

Reminds me of the old farmer joke: Farmer was tired of the neighborhood kids stealing his watermelons so he put up a sign "No Trespassing, one of these melons is poisoned!" so the kids wrote on the bottom of the sign "now there are TWO melons poisoned!" Be cautious with signage, there are those who want you to prove the words written on the sign.

Rig up a signal mirror in some cover down range. When they read the sign and start scanning they'll get the tale tale flash of a scope from the signal mirror.
