The hardest thing is telling the two apart as their behaviours are so similar. All Narcissists are Avoidants but not all Avoidants are Narcissists.
I’ve been with both and would rather be single for the rest of my life than to experience that level of pain ever again!

My own assimilation —Native American repressed anger/rage caused me to do this very thing to my son—never letting him cry. Settlers came to America and broke our spirits. Later got counseling but for my son it was too late. Cry when remembering what i caused. We’ve talked but he still suffers with the symptoms even he forgave me.

What is sad thing to think about that a child would have to go through something like that when they don't even know how to live yet❤💔💔💔💔💔💔💔

I'm curious about protective factors that prevent the development of a personality disorder. My mother behaved in a way that clearly showed me that my feelings were not important nor welcome and to keep them to myself unless they were pleasing to her - showing approval and love toward her. My father enabled her but did listen to me and try to support me with his limited emotional capacity

My birth giver said as a toddler when she became pregnant with my sister I started refusing to let her touch me. I wanted nothing to do with her, , y future sibling or any form of physical affection. Apparently this was fine by her as she sought no help or education on the matter. My question is was I an avoidant child?

I have 3 sisters who have narcissistic behaviors and I believe I'm avoidant although none of us have been diagnosed. Our dad has been diagnosed as paranoid schizoid and I know my mom suffered from depression. From all this I decided to see the humor in life.

Could you also please highlight the differences between avoidant attachment styles and avoidant personality disorder? A lot of people tend to believe they are one and the same. In our AVPD support groups this has become problematic even.

Individuals with Pathological NPD have no attachment style because they simply do not attach to anyone, including their parents, siblings, or spouses. This is a severe generic condition, amplified by environmental factors. 😢

There is no cure for the pathological narcissist and the extreme damage they do to their chosen victim child is unforgivable. It makes me sick to hear you explain and defend them
