Installed new Empire Zoysia sod 3rd week in April here in Georgia. New to lawn care. I was totally thinking installers did a crappy job with overlapping some edges and spaces in between others…so glad to see this info. Other than watering tips and hire a lawn care service, I got no other instructions, their job is done and now it’s on me 😅. I’m a do it yourselfer so appreciate the good info in your videos! Trying to figure out when to start using fertilizer and when to do first mow. These videos are so helpful. Thanks!

I feel your pain. It took 9 months to finish our house. You are spot on with sod not being smooth and the average homeowners lack of turf etiquettes. Cheers

Bermuda sod put down in December. I've recently had my first few cuts and my lawn is drastically unleveled trying to be patient and wait to level. First time having a lawn so learning about proper maintenance. I will try to stick to the basics for now. I will take your advice and cut at a bit higher level. Thanks

I want to get a leveling job done for the first time in the spring. 1/4 acre. Could you give me a GENERAL guess of how much sand, and cost.
I'm in SC. so we have lots of sand. Thanks.

Thanks! Great information. My lawn has some fairly deep ruts and I thought about sand but it seems that I need to do soil sand mixture over a few years.

Last weekend, I tied leveled and laid my new side in my yard, and it’s not completely level. But I found was our side pieces not all uniform and size but the amount of dirt for each piece of sod varies from 1/2 to 3/4 of aninch in thickness. That right there will make your lawn not level so you were spot on with what you’re talking about.

Rocks and construction debris were my nemesis for my new construction sod.

I just did my backyard renovation this last fall. I took the opportunity to level the backyard. I used a 50/50 mix of sand and compost, Then threw down some RPR ryegrass. I'm in the Pacific Northwest in the South Puget Sound area.
We've been getting the pineapple expresses lately.

This was me as well. Im going into the second year in my new home. My sodded yard is a rollercoaster. I may consider a soil/sand leveling project this spring.

Once again brother, informative and to the point, your philosophy is so much like mine I have time to work on my lawn but not unlimited time I have money to put towards my lawn but not unlimited funds, like some channels that seem to have every piece of equipment imaginable I don’t have companies knocking on my door to give me their equipment why would they I have no channel, nor do I care to nothing against those people frankly I’m just a bit jealous

We moved in a year ago almost to the date. What you said was right on, they rolled it twice and still pretty bumpy. Going to go some leveling next spring. The front yard is my priority. Our backyard is about 11000 sq feet. Not looking forward to leveling that. What kind of Bermuda are you having laid?

Thank you sir! Good information. Just got my new Bermuda SOD installed on March 16 and its looking great. Just cut it last weekend on saturday up 3 in for now but I did notice that it was a little bumpy. I will continue to monitor the bumpyness on my lawn. After the first cut, how high should I leave it now?

You just helped me understand that my husband has higher standards than the sod installers do 😂 Maybe hubs needs a career change

I had new sod laid about three months ago. It is quite bumpy with dips and low spots now. Maybe I did it from watering it and walking on it too early, I don’t know. After watching your videos I’m going to take your advice and probably wait a year before leveling. At least that will give the grass time to settle in and go through some seasons. It will definitely be a big project for me. Do you think that’s the best plan? I really do appreciate all your help! And thank you for teaching some of us!

what if the new sod is very poorly laid with lots of seams. Will filling the seams with a sand and soil mix be ok? BTW its tif tuf bermuda.
