My nephew is there in Tampa they stayed at an abandoned jail last night. He is there to help. From California he is a member of the search and rescue team from Sacramento California. I just wanted to take a second to thank him for his bravery and say I am proud of you Zach!

I dont think everyone understands what it means to have fifteen feet of water everywhere

She’s worried about sliding doors? The storm surge may be 12 feet.

I hope to God folks get their pets and animals out too! Don’t leave the helpless ones behind, please!

It’s so frustrating to hear repeated misspeaking about wind speeds by reporters. Category 5 at 150 mph does not mean “winds up to 150 mph.” It means SUSTAINED winds of 150 mph with gusting winds higher than that.
Seems small, but why can’t anyone get it right?

That sigh for "we're prepared to wait in traffic". Damn bro. I feel your pain.

I have been through enough of these growing up in Florida including hurricane Andrew. This one is going to be bad! Lost my house to Andrew. When the roof rips to pieces on top of you it’s puts things in perspective!

Checked the tide level when the hurricane officially hits the coast around 2 am.
In Sarasota close to the landfall zone high tide is at 5 am.

The news should be mentioning that the combination of high tide will cause more flooding.
Careful everyone.

I hope everyone who has tried to evacuate, is able to. And those who chose or was forced to hunker makes it through. I absolutely hate this for everyone. Helene just came through, now Milton.

These “gonna ride it out” people are not playing with a full deck.
•meteorologists choking up on TV yesterday. Saying “once in a thousand years”
•satellite images show the hurricane covering damn near the entire Gulf of Mexico
•10-15 foot storm surge
•police and sheriffs departments saying yesterday “once winds hit sustained 50mph, officers will not be responding to calls”

What does “ride it out” even mean? Hide under the bed?

My heart is so overwhelmed. We're "used to" hurricanes here in Jamaica; but Milton is off the charts! I'm praying for divine protection and comfort as the Floridians brace for this monster of a storm.

Omg get out now! That's what exactly we had with Yolanda/ Haiyan. 6, 000 people died and more missing. Evacuation center should be higher and away far far away from the ocean. That's what the big mistake we had. The Evacuation center was also closed to the waters and all of them sunked and did not made it. Hope you all learn from us in the Philippines.

150 mph winds are insane and it's going to make landfall during high tide. This is going to cause an insane amount of damage. I've been thru many hurricanes including Andrew and this storm seems to be on Andrew's level. Miami looked like Gaza after Andrew!

PLEASE Florida people, get out if you can. Don't try and ride this one out. Go to shelter, put in place, and take your pets.
