At least 16 people have died after Hurricane Milton passed through Florida, though the total number of deaths could rise as rescue workers make their way through floodwaters and debris

More than two million homes and businesses are without power and thousands of people have been rescued from flooded areas.

“Daughter, call our relatives, friends, and neighbours to eat with us... let us feast!"
His daughter took to the street and started shouting.
“Please help us put out a fire at my Dad's house!".
After a few moments, a small group of people came out and the rest acted like they didn't hear the cry for help.
Those who came ate and drank until late.
The stunned father turned to his daughter and said to her.
“The people who came I barely know them, some I had never seen them before, so where are our relatives, friends, and neighbours ?".
The daughter said.
“Those who came out of their homes came to help us put out a fire in our house and not for the party.
These are the ones who deserve our generosity and hospitality".

In 1976 after a major typhoon (same as hurricane) hit Guam (where I live), the government made it mandatory for all structures to be rebuilt using concrete. It’s expensive but definitely protects against the high winds. Steel storm shutters are also required. Flooding does occur in low lying areas, but a lot of homes are on elevated land. Anyway, many prayers for those affected by Milton and Helene. 🙏🏼

I fled Tampa Bay on June 30th after living there for 27 years. Hurricanes were one of the reasons why. I had a gut feeling that this year Tampa Bay’s luck would run out. I warned friends and coworkers to do the same because the area will be unlivable in the very near future due to hurricanes AND the accompanying steep insurance premiums. Many of those same people have been telling me “you were right” or “you got out just in time”.

Lived in FL for 7 years now in DE, never looked back between the humidity, mosquitoes big as hummingbirds, gators in the backyard other critters crawling around and insane insurance costs place is unliveable Turn it into a giant wildlife park, space port and amusement park other words aka Jurassic Park!
