More than two million households are without power after Hurricane Milton smashed into central Florida, the latest figures indicate.

The website PowerOutages shows nearly 100% of customers in Hardee County have been without power, with people in Sarasota, Manatee and Pinella counties also hit hard by cuts.

Speaking from the White House earlier on Wednesday, President Joe Biden said Milton is expected to be "one of the most destructive hurricanes in Florida in over a century".

I don’t think people didn’t leave in spite of warnings… I just think they can’t financially.

It baffles me why so many homes in a region regularly battered by storms and tornadoes are build from flimsy materials and their power lines are all on poles above ground. No wonder there is devastation and huge power outages after every storm.

Notice the buildings made out of concrete are fine…

seems like a lot of folk are dissatisfied that it didn't cause more damage for their own entertainment instead of feeling happy it wasn't worse.
Of course over-warning folk about this may lead to people sticking the next one out which could potentially be far, far worse. Always best to veer on the side of caution.

So a Sky reporter stands in a life threatening hurricane to report live? Hmmm….

Why do the people continue building houses of wood instead of bricks? Every year the same pictures!

Instead of spying and causing wars, death, mayhem in other nations, take care of your own nation. Charity begins at home. Lord have mercy ✝️

BBC, Sky and other UK outlets giving a lot of attention to these US bound Hurricanes, typhoons on the other hand barely get a mention as they ravaged other nations earlier in the year

Why build house with wood in a hurricane area

Touted as the worst storm in 100 years by the media, but ends up being a storm that people in the area deal with every season, still devastating for people who lost there property but the media reporting storm of the century forcing people to flee or die.

More tornadoes in the East. The hurricane was more hit in Sarasota than Tampa bay area. Ground floor full floods. Would have got higher if it hit Tampa. These comments are wild!

Genuine question, why are people allowed to build homes that resemble sheds in states that experiance tornados/hurricanes, the proper brick/concrete buildings all look fine.
