Jordan Hatfield answers a common Calvinist objection

Is Calvinism biblical? Watch more of my videos answering Calvinism here:

The topic of Calvinism is something that I have personally spent a lot of time studying and thinking about for the past decade. In recent years this theology has grown a lot in popularity, being propagated by popular and prominent pastors and christian leaders like John Piper, John Macarthur, RC Sproul and ministry organizations like the Gospel Coalition, Desiring God, Ligonier Ministries and Apologia Studios.

This theology is based on a particular understanding of passages like Romans 9, John 6 and Ephesians 1, which are interpreted by Calvinists in a way that results in the conclusion that God has determined before the foundation of the world which individuals he will save and has ultimately created a countless mass of humanity throughout history for the purpose of condemning them to eternal torment in hell for committing sins that he himself determined that they commit. This may be a bit more of an abrasive and pointed way of putting it, but I think if you come to understand the claims and beliefs of the theologians mentioned above who teach these doctrines, you will see that this is an accurate and honest representation of their ultimate conclusions.

I personally find the view of God that is communicated in Calvinism to be immoral and a gross misrepresentation of what the bible actually describes God to be like. Although I do have moral and emotional apprehensions toward this theology, that is not ultimately the reason why I came to reject it. I came to reject it on biblical grounds. After examining the many Calvinistic proof texts like Romans 9 and Ephesians 1, I became convinced that Calvinists are simply misunderstanding and misinterpreting these texts.

I make videos about this topic because I believe that bad theology is harmful to people - emotionally, mentally and spiritually. My goal in making videos like this is not to demonize Calvinists who teach these things or to say they are evil heretics or anything of the sort, but to simply explain why I strongly disagree with their conclusions and offer what I consider to be a better way of understanding the many biblical texts that are often used to support these views.

God is not trying, he has done it. He reconcilled the world to himself through Christ, through his blood shed on the cross. But the deal was always that we had to believe, that we had to receive him.
He has done it, if we then believe, he will seal it by the Holy Spirit.

God gives people free will. God wants to save ALL and hopes they come to Him of free will.

God warming sinners about their course of destruction is not "failure."

2 Chron. 24:19
"Yet He sent prophets to them to bring them back to the LORD; and they testified against them, but they would not listen."

Calvinists would have you believe God FAILED in the passage above.

What a beautiful answer. God does not fail in saving believers. God saves exactly who He wants to save - believers

If you say he can't it's only because he gives you free will and it's your choice to follow his rules so you will see him when he works thru others

I think it's good clear way to to answer this is difference between can't and won't. Its not that that God can't save a person and is failing, it's that God won't save a person unless they are willing to be saved legitimately. You have Jesus lamentation over Jerusalem saying if only.... but you were not willing. Jesus is infact very respectful of his creation dispirited the creations disrespect of Him.

The Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, has said, “In turning away from sin and in rest, you will be saved. Your strength will come by being quiet and by trusting.” But you would not.
Isaiah 30:15

No! It can’t be a gift unless it’s “effectually” given! You can’t be considered “generous” unless you force people to take your gift! What’s wrong with you people!? 😱

Those who are called are justified. Do you not have a category for general and effectual calling?

God does not predestined no one before you are born to hell or heaven many people will reject the gospel of JESUS understand this

It is the Free-Will people who believe God can fail. According to them, it would be possible for EVERYONE to die in their sins and Jesus would have died for nothing.

You ask 100 people this question, you'll get 100 different answers. Yet, not one of those people will open up the bible to get you the answer directly from the bible. An still, call themselves "christians!"

Oh Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets, and stone those who are sent to you, how often would I have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not! {Mt 23:37}

“God does not want to save unbelievers”.

Well buddy, that’s most people, so God does not want to save most people.

‭Romans‬ ‭8:29‬ ‭ESV‬
[29] For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

‭Romans‬ ‭8:30‬ ‭ESV‬
[30] And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

Notice there is no SOME anywhere in this passage. It does not say some who were foreknew. It says those. Meaning all. All who were foreknew were predestined. All who were predestined were called. All who were called were justified. All who are justified are glorified.

This makes sense because the knew part of foreknew refers to intimate knowledge. Like Mary knew Joseph but hasn't KNOWN him yet. Or how can an all knowing God say depart from me I never knew you.

Repent and believe the gospel.

So he could save non-believers, he just choses not to? So he's evil?

Jonathan Edwards preached many times encouraging to strive for salvation and improve the strivings of the Spirit, the reason is because he didn’t find any inconsistency with calvinism. The operations of God are at different levels.
