I really like this view of providence, its way better than the Thomistic interpretation I learned a few years ago. God accomplishes what he wants, and every individual fulfill his plan, willing or unwilling

Just be sure it's God who's working the clay.

First off I don’t believe in Calvinism. Jeremiah 18 makes no mention of the clay resisting God’s will. Verse 4 says this “And the vessel that He made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: So He made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.” Romans 9:19 mentions that no one can resist God’s will and In Romans 9:21 we read that the potter (God) can make a vessel to honor or dishonor as he chooses. God doesn’t make man sinful but He does give individual gifts to each vessel and this is what is in consideration. Also as far as the able to resist goes, Daniel 4:35 further solves it “And all the inhabitants of the earth are as reputed as nothing: and He doeth according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay His hand, or say to him, What doest thou?”

"Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?" The potter takes a lump of clay and makes what he wants to make out of it. The thing formed shows the workmanship of the one who formed it. The potter can make anything he wants to make. The clay has no power to insist that the potter make something out of it. If that potter chooses to make of the same lump of clay a vessel unto honour and another vessel unto dishonour, then he has the sovereign right to do so. The clay has no choice in the matter. How much more so the Creator of the universe. He has the right to take of the lump of clay from which he created Adam and to make vessels unto honor and unto dishonor. The clay has no choice in this matter.

This is the worst explanation I've ever heard. The clay "resists"? The clay is "not a mere passive participant"?

Dude - this makes no sense. Clay doesn't resist. Clay is not active. It's *clay*.

There couldn't possibly be a better example of passivity and a substance not capable of action than .... clay.
