Never get tired of seeing people using their freewill to verbalize their objection to freewill.

People ought to watch the debate between Leighton and White about Romans 9. The question in the debate must be asked; who is applying the chapter accurately vs. who is stretching it to fit their own view?

Nice opinion piece... When I was a new Christian, these (calvinistic) points made sense in the framework of my experience. I wouldn't have chosen God, never. He chose me, and with his grace and how he orchestrated my life, I chose him. I know my will is bound within God's will.

I’ve moved from Arminianism to Calvinism precisely because I wasn’t looking for Him. Reading scripture I think it’s clear He sought me out. He gave me eyes to see. Not “I” but “He”.

“Which should YOU choose” (emphasis mine).
And therein lies the whole problem.

Great work CE/Frank. Calvinism's conflations & contrivings of scripture has caused many to go through deconstructionism of their beliefs in God & what they thought was biblical Soteriology.

Calvinism can only be accepted if you focus on the few verses they eschew and ignore all the verses that disagree. Basically just it is both God's will and our choice. Scripture cannot be more clear in this. How can both be true? The same way many things are in scripture, we must accept that He said it is so even when we don't understand it.

"It starts with whatever presuppositions you hold when looking at a verse".. well then, how do we get rid of that? I was saved less than a year ago and always felt like something changed in me and made me see God and the Lord Jesus as something worth living and dying for. I searched and to my suprise "Free will" is nowhere found in the bible. Instead what do you see God doing? Choosing Noah, choosing abraham, choosing issac, choosing jacob, choosing israel, choosing moses and aaron, choosing david, choosing the disciples. You have to understand, when you argue against the calvanistic persepctive, you argue against the bible and Gods sovereignty. Our will does not triumph the Holy God's. With all of this being said, there is still much worthy of debate and christians should always engage in good fellowship and conversation despite theology. But also, to keep in mind, that to the calvanist, you saying people can refuse Gods grace or that he cant choose to save people is not biblical. Romans 9 answers this whole ordeal. Its just we have a tought time comprehending it because we think of the Lord as an" equal oppertunity employer" rather than sovereign. The question always comes down why would God choose to save some and not others? But as i heard one time, the real question is, why would he save one. His mercy and Grace that is why. God bless you all

Free will exists, just because God knows what is going to happen doesn't mean he is controlling it that way.

Before there was an Islamic State in Syria, there was a Calvinist State in Geneva, Switzerland. And they varied little in their brutality and heretical manipulation of religion.

I personally love doctrine. And I also believe it’s impt to get it right. In the end, when it all comes out in the eternal wash, all of us will realize that each of us was wrong w some piece of our doctrines. I have been greatly distressed by this renewed effort to wrangle about Calvinism in this period of human history when it is of the least consequence ever. It is no longer a spiritual battle but one of flesh and blood. While we argue with other believers, how many people everyday step off the Earth’s stage and into their eternal destiny?!?! Impacting the eternal destiny of human image bearers is where our emphasis should be!

“In essentials unity; in non-essentials liberty; in all things love.”

How can you elect a nation and not elect individuals

Thanks so much for being willing to discuss this topic Dr. Turek. It definitely can get heated but that’s probably because it means so much to believers on both sides. So it’s important I think.

Much of the time, I find we speak across each other in this topic.
Both sides must be charitable to one another as they eagerly desire to search the scriptures and go where it leads.

Bear in mind, while I’m not one, Pelagius wasn’t viewed as a heretic until Augustine pushed for it, it was essentially the view of Rome up until Augustine pushed for Pelagius’ view to be viewed as heresy.

Even many modern eastern and western Christians would say they’re partial Pelagians.
And synergists.

I think the truth is somewhere between both, and dr flowers was very helpful in pulling me away from staunch Calvinism.

Thank you for sharing your views.

As a Christian who believes in the doctrines of grace, I do not believe that non-Calvinistic soteriology will lead to hell. However, my major issue with non-Calvinists is that they are gradually introducing liberal, open theology, and lgbtq+ views into the church. Yes, there are moral failings among Calvinistic preachers, but congregations and preachers (with the exception of a few) with non-Calvinistic soteriology appear to be very liberal in their thinking. Calvinistic preachers, on the other hand, are excellent Bible expositors.

The Calvinists are triggered that you even put “Choose” in the title

”Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, “
