When someone says, “Calvinism is the gospel”, I want to ask them, “does a person need to agree with Calvinism in order to be saved?” If they say, “yes” then they are saying MANY Christians are simply not saved. If they say, “no”, then God has decreed that many Christians not believe the gospel.

Yeah, that's what made me raise my eyebrow when Spurgeon said Calvinism is the gospel when, at the time, I thought Calvinism was just a secondary issue. I was like, wait a minute, that's just an interpretation of salvation point of view, not the gospel.

What I love is how hundreds/over a thousand years after Christ ascended is when we finally get people who truly understand the gospel under Calvinism. Not God's Chosen People, not Jesus' Disciples, not even Paul. None of these people who had direct or indirect communication with God unlike us, just Augustine and John Calvin far after those others died. Not even the people who lived with Jesus understood the important parts under Calvinism.

There is no Gospel under Calvinism. If you’re elect, you were never in danger of going to Hell. If you’re not of the elect, you never had a Savior, and there is no good news.

I have yet to meet a Christian who was saved by having Calvinism explained to them. Furthermore, every Calvinist I ever met became a Calvinist AFTER they became a believer! My guess is that their deep sense of gratitude and appreciation for being saved by a gracious God were so grateful they forgot that it was their own realization they were lost and needed to be saved. Calvinism believes we do not have the capacity to choose God but fail to understand that God, in His mercy, gives us a choice, not by removing freewill, but the opposite. Freewill is what GIVES us the opportunity to KNOW WE ARE LOST and need salvation. How is knowing we are lost, our own doing? NO, NO! It is God's grace that shows us that and we then choose Him.
P.S. Some Calvinist preachers often, without being aware they are preaching freewill, preach a true saving Gospel. After all, a broken clock is correct twice a day.

I just can't get "whosoever will"
out of my head. And replace it with "God chose me but he didn't choose you"

I’m a Calvinist and I agree with this. There’s a way to have a belief and not insist that everyone has to have that belief in order to be a Christian.
We’re not talking Trinity, Christology, or authority of the Bible. This is ONE BRANCH of theology.

I was a Calvinist before I got saved. And then a few years later rejected Calvinism because of restudying Romans 9 with cross referencing and saw that I was reading Romans 9 wrong. It wrecked me at the time and I remember being in tears in the pastors office over it. Praise the Lord He opens our eyes to see the truth.

Well, "Gospel" means "good news." And Calvinism is terrible news... so, no.

Since Calvanism is a systematic covering more that just the Gospel, to say it is the Gospel and nothing more just feels wrong on the face of it.

Gospel of Christ Jesus is in 1 Cor..15: Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again bodily for our righteousness. A sinner becomes saved from hellfire and sins by putting his faith in Christ Jesus for remission of sins and eternal life. Calvinism is not the Gospel. It is very arrogant, unbiblical to say calvinism is Gospel
Note: actually heretical to say calvinism is the Gospel

Spurge said that very early in his ministry. Later on he stopped preaching that silliness that Calvinism is the gospel.
And even if he never changed That's not bible.

Deuteronomy 30:19 is the end of Calvinism.

I have GREAT respect for Spurgeon. But I remember, when I read that quote from him, "Calvinism is the gospel and nothing else, " I was starkly reminded that even the greatest of Christians can say really stupid things.

There was a time when John Mac did NOT believe or teach Calvinism … R. C. Sprout converted him … no one becomes a Calvinist from reading or studying the Bible by themselves and for themselves… John joined the club

The arrogance of such Calvinist's statements in heartbreaking. The judgmentalism of such statements needs to be called out, as you have done. Thank you for this and for all you do.

The amount of people going mad in these comments and Leighton himself using this out of context 5 second snippet to somehow create a “substantial” argument against Calvinism is why no theologian takes him serious.

I was in a Calvinist church for 2 years… they didn’t say they where Calvinist… but they where…. And around that 2 year mark they started getting a bit cultish… hard exit.

The host essentially said that the sovereignty of God and his choice to regenerate some while passing over others is, “… untenable.”

My question is what about Pharaoh back in the day?The Bible plainly teaches that God hardened Pharaoh’s heart. It says he has hardened others as well.

Was that untenable, too? -That God created Pharaoh and countless others unto ultimate destruction for God’s own purposes?

This, really, is the issue that Arminians have with predestination.
“It’s untenable.”

The Bible teaches it, but the Arminian rejects the teaching that God chooses whom he will choose and that God gives mercy to whom he chooses to give mercy, and that he also hardens whomever he chooses to harden.

GOD CHOOSES.
It’s his Creation.
His plan. His will.
His decree - His choice and sovereignty over EVERYTHING that happens under the sun.

Calling God out for being untenable is another example of the arrogance of the Arminian who claims his salvation was of his own choosing.

Why, then, do Arminians also pray and ask God to save this person or that person?

It’s because the Arminian knows he can preach until he’s blue in the face, and not one soul will come to Jesus unless that person is given to Jesus by the Father.

No one is able to give themselves a new heart. Only God can. Please, people, give God the credit for your conversion. God’s word in operation with the Holy Spirit converts the chosen person unto salvation.

If God hasn’t chosen you unto salvation, you will never convert yourself.

It is those who believe that THEY chose God who fall away or who, when meeting the Lord after their deaths, are told to leave his presence because Jesus never knew them. They never belonged to God but had presumed to have chosen him.

They don’t like the God who chooses whom he will choose, so they make God a more tenable God by declaring that God is fair.

However, the kind of fair that they are promoting is blasphemous, for by declaring God to be fair in the way that they declare it, they dishonor God by insinuating that the actual God who chooses whom he will choose is NOT fair or just.
