Clumps would come out and my narcissistic husband would be so disgusted with the amount of hair I would shed, hopefully since I am leaving him, I won’t have this issue anymore!

It has also caused weight gain, pcos, hormonal imbalance, memory loss, changes in physical appearance, like hunched shoulders due to excess stress, anxiety attack etc etc for me

This happened to me. I left an abusive Narc and the process was entirely awful. My hair came out in clumps. It’s growing back now and I am finally divorced!

I am still working on getting my hair back. I was hyper vigilant and stressed 24/7. I was so afraid he would physically attack me again!
It’s been 22 months, a Dermotoligst hasn’t even helped get it back to normal!

I developed hyperthyroidism(my hair fell out in clumps at this stage), chronic depression, metabolism spiked then dropped... Miscarried twice. Damage was done but myself and my three girls survive.. The healing continues. Thanks for your videos.... Everything you say is so clear. ❤

Yep, it’s called telogen effluvium. It’s worth noting that this type of excessive hair shedding can have a delayed onset, up to 6 months after the stressor occurs. This means that telogen effluvium can start while you’re still in the stressful environment or up to 6 months after you leave it. So if you’ve been living relatively peacefully and notice excessive hair shed all of sudden, see a doctor, but also ask yourself if you’ve been under serious stress (e.g., stressful environment, surgery, a death, etc.) at any point within the last 6 months.

Also advocate for yourself if/when you see a doctor about hair loss. A lot of them will write it off as genetics, aging or stress-related instead of thoroughly investigating the root cause. In my experience, it took 4 years of trying different doctors for one to finally diagnose me with the very autoimmune disease I’ve suspected I’ve had all along🙃 None of the doctors I saw took my hair loss seriously. All of them wrote it off as telogen effluvium (e.g., stress-induced hair loss). While that may have been true when I first started seeking medical help, it was also true that I had an autoimmune disease that was probably playing a part in my hair loss too…an autoimmune disease that I’m certain resulted from the chronic stress and abuse of living with the narcissist. In short, just listen to and believe your body when it tries to alert you of internal and external issues. Body scanning meditation has really helped me with listening to and appreciating my body as my biggest ally…even if it is attacking itself these days haha.

I have lost my hair 3 times, when overly stressed it gets thin and breaks at the root.

I got hair loss. Never had it before. Started during a relation with a covert narcissist.

My goodness, yes I had this in the crashing down period. Big clumps of hair (I have long hair), hands full, I would take after showering to the trash can. I don’t have that anymore now. Just some strands I don’t even botter to take out from the drain, it’s that little.

I experienced patchy hair loss when with a narcissist. It grows back but it takes a very long time.

When I left, not only was my hair thin at the roots in places but there were patches. I noticed that prior, I would wash my hair and quite a bit would come out but I didn't realise it was coming from the root and causing patches 😢. I didn't realise this is how stressed I was eventhough with that person in my life I was having rashes/ hives an panic attacks, high anxiety and was always in fight/ flight mode. I also could not lose weight no matter how hard I tried; regularly in the gym and calorie counting, instead I was gaining weight. I am so glad I left because my body was so weak and low eneryby the time I did leave, it could have been causing auto immune disorder. I'm so glad I left, 5 months out, still recovering, praying and my hair follicles are slowly coming back in. Still recovering ❤.
