Top 10 Reasons NOT to Move to Texas.

Do you want to hear why Texas might Not be for you?
Welcome to the world according to Briggs and a video about Texas. Back in 2017, we did a video about 10 reasons not to move to the lone star state. It is time to take another look. Texas is one of the most moved to states in the country and has been for some time. This has led to the state sort of changing. Texas has jobs, it is relatively safe, and until recently it has been considered affordable. Knowing that it should be no surprise the state is a hot spot for people looking for a better life.
If you are thinking about moving to Texas, this video is for you.
Before we get going let me say this. These videos are just listing things you should know before you move there. I’m not telling you not to move to the state even though the title is reasons NOT to move there. It is just a title that sounds good and gets the point across. I mean it is better than “10 things you should know about, consider, and discuss with your family before relocating to Texas.”
Some of the things can be reasons to move to video as well. Let hot weather, some hate it, some love it. I’m just putting these things out so you know.

What to know before moving to Texas and living in Texas.

Lived south of Dallas for 47 years. It's changed A LOT. I didn't move to the city, the city moved to me.

As a Texan of 37 years I can totally agree with the traffic, just 5 years ago most everyone used a blinker and never ran a red light. Can't say that now! 😡

moved to Texas 5 years ago and my biggest complaints are the super reckless drivers and the healthcare is horrible. I’m 23 and barely need medical attention and the few times I have were a nightmare 100%

One thing about the locals I got a kick out of: I was born in Texas but my family moved when I was 3 and we never lived in Texas again. Nevertheless when I was in my 50s and took a job briefly in Dallas a few years ago, and I told "the locals" I was born in Texas, as far as they were concerned I was a bona fide Texas native and I was OK in their book.

Number 8 kept us from moving there. In Harris county (Houston) the rate is 2% or higher in most of the country. I looked at a small ranch, 5 acres, that the property tax was over $1200 a month. The exclusion is if you qualify for an agriculture exemption, but that requires 6+ acres and must be "for profit" use to qualify. So a cow and a few chickens on a 20 acre spread won't cut it.

I recently visited Austin for the first time in a few years and it’s different now than it was even then. To say housing prices have skyrocketed is almost an understatement. My aunt showed me a place that wasn’t even close to livable and it was valued at $250k. Just unreal. On top of that, Austin’s homeless population is getting BAD. Like, stay entirely away from 6th Street bad.

I certainly remember the “good ole days” in California. 60+ year resident.

I’ll admit that I’m considering moving to Texas. But when I see the amount of people moving there, I’ve been wondering how much longer Texas will be great. Because as he mentioned in this video, the more people that move there, the more resources the state and local governments have to provide, and will therefore increase the cost in housing and more taxes. Not to mention the more traffic that will clog up the roads and highways in a place where public transportation isn’t so readily available. Maybe I’ll still decide on Texas, but I’m still keeping my options open for other states.

We moved from Texas to Tennessee. ( Houston area- Galveston County). Briggs you are 100 percent right about the property taxes, health care, weather, traffic, and the price of homes. We love Tennessee and will never miss living in Texas.

Been in Houston a decade. This is the most accurate list on Texas that I've seen. Things are definitely changing here and not for the better regarding traffic, crowding and home prices. The property taxes in Houston are insane and Healthcare pretty much sucks. We've lost a home in Harvey. Even if you aren't in a flood area get the FEMA insurance. Trust me.

AS a texan whose family goes back at least 4 generations here (avoca swedes), People here don't hate democracts, we just wish they had the appreance that they understand personal responsibility and that the government needs to butt out of our lives. Unfortunatly, the leaders of Texas only want to hold onto power, and they do it so desperately they are willing to go against those things. Most Texand are independent now because we feel we don't have a party anymore. Apologies to anyone who takes offense, it wasn't meant.

I’m so sick of everyone complaining about people from other states moving to their state. This is America, any citizen can move anywhere in the country they want and there’s nothing you can do about it.

I just moved to Austin 8 months ago and I'm expecting my rent to increase by 4-500/mo once my lease is up. So it was fun while it lasted but I think for the prices their getting away with charging here these days I'd rather be back in Glendale or with my family in Miami beach. You see 1 bedroom high-rise apartments here going for $4k+ a month. Austins cool and all but this isn't Santa Monica, for that price I'd better have ocean views.

Also the wages aren’t great. Even in the bigger cities, some jobs will still try to pay you minimum wage. The COL has gone up but the pay.

Lived in Texas for years. Left in the 80’s. Would never move back, mostly because of the weather & geography. You’re wrong about Texas being Republican forever. It didn’t turn towards the GOP until the 90’s. Y’all forget about Ann Richard’s and LBJ. Hell, even Rick Perry was a democrat back then.

Loved this video. Thanks Bro. I've been living in Texas since 1987. You were SPOT ON with everything, with one minor clarification. Our Health Care is pretty good and accessible if you're in a major metropolitan area. The bulk of inaccessible Healthcare is smaller, isolated areas and West Texas. I live in the DFW Area. I have THREE hospitals nearby, an Urgent Care Clinic down the street from me and another one nearby. Various MDs, Specialists, and Dentists are very close as well. The Property Taxes are bad, but you can get exemptions that help lower them if you qualify. I have a Homestead Exemption and Disabled Veteran Exemption. It helps. The heat is wonderful. I love heat. I don't miss shoveling snow. I'm originally from NJ, and I hate Winter. I own my home and am in an HOA community. I have a pool that I can use that I don't have to take care of. The Open Carry is real, but TBH, I don't see tons of people doing it because there are so many restrictions on where you can carry that I think it's more trouble than it's worth. Excellent video!
