One thing you left out is the different areas you can live in Texas. If you want farm land, north west. If you want desert, south west. If you want pine forest and hilly area, north east. If you want pine and some swamp, south east. If you need an ocean, south central. If you want hill country with small towns, south central. If you want it, we got it.

I did one year of high school in Texas as an exchange student, and it was the best year of my life. The food is amazing, the people were very kind to me, and every boy drove an F150 to school 😂😂😂. Anyway, I can't wait for the pandemic to be over to revisit the Lone Star State. Sending love from Norway! 😁😁😁

#1 to start a construction company. With all the floods, and after this insane ice storm, home renovations have to be at an all time high.

Geography is a big reason I like Texas. It's a huge state with a variety of landscapes. As a geographer, it's a state I love reading about. Grasslands, swamps, deserts, high mountains, limestone hills, forests, beaches, barrier islands, canyons, etc.

I'm intoxicated by the wonderful and beautiful scenery of Texas. From Tokyo the land of the Rising Sun.

Moved to Houston a bit over 4 years ago from the Midwest. Best decision I ever made. Absolutely love Texas! I plan to spend the remainder of my days here. Agree with everything in the list, however, when it comes to the no income tax thing, you need to be aware that they make up for it in property taxes. There are no caps on assessed value, and my taxes are nearly 4x what they were up north. I've never really ran the numbers, but I'd say the no income tax vs property taxes pretty much cancel each other. Overall cost of living is good, even in the big cities. You're still coming out ahead.

As for the friendliness of folks, yes...couldn't agree more. It's kinda weird for someone who, up north, didn't make eye contact or acknowledge people on the street. Down here, that's totally not the case. The nice thing about Houston's diverse population is that there are no ethnic majorities...we're all "minorities". I feel totally fine and at ease if I happen to be the only white dude in a restaurant or store. Everyone else is either friendly or stays in their lane. Everyone's from somewhere else. Up north, you know when you're the minority or wrong ethnicity in a place. Down here, it doesn't matter. It's a very refreshing situation.

Some high schools in Texas football stadiums look like college stadiums. The high school football scene is insane.

If you're interested in moving to TX be sure to investigate the total tax burden you'll bear. TX may not have an income tax, but be sure to check what your property tax will be if you consider purchasing a home.

Moved here to Dallas in 2018 and I Love it! The food, the affordability, and the weather! Minus the snowstorm we just had it’s AMAZING. And tons of jobs here.

Born in Houston and raised in its suburbs, I love this state. You could never pry me away from here! It has it all!! From the beautiful beaches in South Padre and Port Aransas to the lovely forests in East Texas as well as hills in the hill country, I see no better place to live out my days. People are friendly, food is superb, winters are moderate, education is great, patriotism is high, and the cost of living is relatively low.

I live in Arlington Texas, and one major thing that you left out as far as high school sports etc. is marching band and other music. Texas is huge with band, orchestra, and choir. We have three of the best high school musical regions in the country. I was blessed to grow up in one of them.

The friendliness is a real thing. When I first moved here 40 years ago, from the Northern states, people said hello to me as I walked down the street. My first thought was wondering what they were after. But quickly I figured out they were just friendly. Now, when I go back north and say hi to people on the street they... well, you know, check to see if they still have their wallet.

I don't live there, but I wouldn't mind living there. I remember my father was being offered a job in Texas back in the early '90s. He decided to stay here in Illinois. I still tell him that was one of the worst decisions of his life.

Back in 1981 when I first moved to Texas the very first thing I observed was how friendly everyone was until you get used to it it can be cause for suspicion but it is genuine and socially acceptable to be friendly in Texas

Just an early experience I had in Texas. When I moved to the State back in 2000 the people that worked at the local HEB always took time to ask if I had found what I was looking for. They would also greet me warmly at the register when I was checking out. I returned to my home State of NJ to go grocery shopping there. I walked the entire store nearly and not one person said a thing to me. I walked up and placed my stuff on the conveyor belt and the cashier rang me up, handed me my stuff and my change and not a single word from them. I left that store shaking my head and thinking to myself, "NOW I know WHY I moved to Texas." The hospitality you described in Texas is REAL.
