The History of Texas in 11 Minutes

Texas has a rich and diverse history that spans thousands of years, starting with the indigenous peoples who inhabited the region for thousands of years before the arrival of European settlers. In the 16th century, Spanish explorers and missionaries arrived in Texas, followed by Mexican settlers in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1836, Texas declared its independence from Mexico, and after a nine-month conflict, became its own republic. The state joined the United States in 1845 and played a pivotal role in the American Civil War. Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Texas experienced significant growth and development, becoming a major center of agriculture, oil production, and industry. Today, Texas is the second-largest state in the United States, with a diverse economy and a rich cultural heritage.

You didn't mention the oil boom in the early 1900s. That was what helped kick start the Texas economy and made it rival any other state.

You didn't include why Texas wanted independence from Mexico in the first place. Mexico encouraged immigration to Texas in order to counter tribal raids as it was vulnerable for being sparsely populated, but the settlers who went to Texas were American protestants and slave owners from the South. So when Mexico abolished slavery in 1829 and enforced Catholicism on them, these settlers were angry at the government. After being concerned with stability, the government stopped immigration from the US and increased taxes, but the settlers completely ignored these laws. The settlers also didn't like that in 1835, Mexico removed the 1824 constitution, which promoted a federal system, in favor of the Siete Leyes which promoted a centralized one. They saw that as losing their autonomy.

Six Flags amusement parks gets its name from the Six sovereignties that controlled Texas: Spain, France, Mexico, the Texas Republic, the CSA, and the USA.

Yeah you didn't even mention many important parts of Texas history. And for some reason made it sound like today were barely holding our head above water instead being one of the 2 most powerful states in the US

My great grandmother told me stories of Rangers killing land owners that wouldn't support Texas becoming a part of the United States. Its how a lot of the natives and local Mexicans that fought for independence from Mexico never made it into the history books.

This video was good at the start but Texas did not have any troubles due to hurricanes, JFK or droughts. Texas is the only state that is self sufficient and could actually become its own country. The entire country moves to Texas due to its economical strength and lower cost of living. The people of Texas are also known for being far better in quality as far as education, size, looks and manners

You forgot how Texas is now the 9th, soon to be 8th, biggest economy in the world, is the second most populated state in the Union (and growing), is the biggest producer/exporter of oil/natural gas for the USA, still has it's own power grind, giving it power autonomy from the rest of the country and has one of the most successful economic triangles in the world.

Fortune 500 companies are lining up to move there, along with booming business models and middle-class citizens. I'd say Texas has come a long way and is now one of the biggest success stories in the Union.

ending was anti-climatic, he's acting like Texas is on the verge of collapse and that we have a terrible reputation even though Texas is arguably the most powerful state in the Union. It really isn't a "tough ride" like he says, we are very loyal to our state.

5th generation Texan here. It is very hard to cover so much material in so little time. There were a lot of things left out which were important.

As a Texas history teacher and enthusiat, I can confidently state this video is woefully shortcoming of reality.

You didn't mention the Houston Rockets back to back championships 1994 and 1995.

A lot of the important history of Texas itself was left out... This is basically a video of how it became a state in the US and not about Texas in of itself.

A very interesting video. As a Spaniard there’s a special link with Texas. If anyone is interested, there is a very well documented book about the different settlements of Spaniards in the actual USA (including Alaska and Canada), it’s in Spanish and I think it has not yet been translated to English: Banderas Lejanas by Carlos Canales and Fernando Martinez Laínez.

I always call myself a Texan before an American. My great great grandfather took arms against the dictator Santa Ana and enlisted in the Texian army. God bless Texas.

The animated map shows the Pánfilo de Narváez expedition landing near what is now Corpus Christi/Port Aransas, about 260 miles west of what is now Galveston.

You forgot the important part of Texas history when natural resources began to replace King Cotton, namely livestock and oil.

This video is a lore crime.
It’s clearly not possible to cover the history of Texas in 11 minutes because you omitted a significant amount of it.
