I lived in California for over thirty five years and now live in Texas. I can tell you that the same retail jobs pay $15k to $20k more in CA. I also found that services here in TX are more than in CA. Restaurants are more expensive in TX in my experience as well. Property taxes supplement the state having no state tax. Homes that cost $600k four years ago are $950k to $1M in the North Dallas area. So, unless you move to rural areas, the cost of homes has changed in the last five years. My neighbor bought his home two years before us for half the price. I think people are working with outdated information when it comes to TX being cheap. Not any more. Make sure you do your homework and research before moving.

As a native Texan, please stop. In the small town I was raised in and still live in, I personally know of two different California couples that moved here and bought up several houses only to turn them into B&B’s or rent houses with rent prices rivaling the market in cities, jacking up our property taxes and turning our communities into tourist attractions. There’s nothing out here, and soon locals won’t be able to afford to live here anymore. Average rent is several hundred dollars more than my mortgage. This shit is ridiculous and we’re over it.

Born and raised in Texas and now living in Oregon I can honestly say that living in the West coast is so expensive that just trying to save enough money to move back to Texas has been the hardest financial trial of my life.

The temperature part is a lie. I live in Austin and the daily temperature since early June has been 100-106 degrees if you ignore the heat index. It’s also really expensive in Austin. If you want to move to Texas, you need to have the money to pay for ac cause you’re not going anywhere in this heat.

Facts! Love this! Me & my husband are building a home in TX as we speak. We would’ve been paying almost 4x more in MA. We even had enough in the budget for the pool I’m so excited 💎💎💎💎💎💎

I visited Dallas in July 2019 and when I landed it was 95 degrees at 9 am lol. Those summers are no joke

To anyone considering moving here. Things have changed. Crime is high, prices are higher, the weather sucks. Stay where you are if you care about yourself and family. It’s not safe here…

We see a lot of 100+ degree temp days in DFW, last year close to 50 days.
Lots of traffic. There is always construction. Rent is steadily increasing. Cost of living continues to rise.

All we ask is for Californians to not mess up our state like they did theirs

In summers the temperatures in Texas range from 90-108 starting in July-September. I have lived here for 45 years. The large cities have horrible traffic and too many pEop!e.

As a Texan, I agree with most of this. Jobs of plenty here, but cost of living is a bit tricky depending on what your occupation is. Weather is dysfunctional sometimes. It could rain 1 minute, than be sunny and rain again. Plus, could snow during February and be sunny later.

Dallas resident here. Traffic is not manageable 😂

Heat and heat index are two different things. It might be 94 degrees outside, but it could have a heat index of 110.

Moved to Texas from California in the mid 90’s because salaries may have been lower in Texas, but housing was unbelievably low. A typical 3 bedroom 2 bath home was 50-60 thousand dollars in Texas then. Fast forward 30 years and everyone believes it’s still true. Yes, housing is still less but catching up. We may not have a state income tax, but property tax is getting ridiculous and goes up every year such that if and when you pay off your home, your monthly taxes will be replaced with $500-$1000 plus monthly “rent” to the state. Stay rural if you can. All this being said, there is no way I could have owned a 2000 sq ft home with 8 acres in California as an educator. Miss the weather but I’ll never move back!

I think every place is freaking expensive, I’m in VA and the great thing is that we do not have major traffic problems or tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, etc. but wages are not that competitive, not a lot of opportunities for business owners, just got to pray to make the right decision and have supportive family members and or partnerships.

I've lived in: IL (3x), MI, CA (2x), WA, IN, FL, NM (2x) and TX (2x). It would agree with the majority of this video. The cost of living in Austin & DFW are becoming extremely expensive!!! Although it is a tax free state, we get you on: tollways, utilities, property & sales taxes. There traffic in Austin, DFW and Houston is a nightmare!! There are serious safety issues, especially at schools. Worst of all are the politics (Blue and Red) have terrible policies. But, that being said, I'm staying in TX.

Otherwise, Texas is a great place to live. ;-)

The nice warm weather is a draw and the property tax is out of this world. I live in a nice area in Austin Texas.
